New Shows Surge into Gemini Awards Spotlight

  • First Season of Call Me Fitz with 16 noms hot on heels of Flashpoint with 17 noms

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce the nominations for the 26th Annual Gemini Awards, celebrating the best in Canadian English language television and digital media.

The third season of CTV series Flashpoint leads the annual TV nominations once again with 17 nods, including Best Dramatic Series.

Hot on its heels are two debutant shows, both in the Best Comedy Program or Series category, including the new HBO Canada series Call Me Fitz (with 16 nominations) and TMN/Movie Central’s Living in Your Car (with 10 nominations).

History Channel’s The Kennedys and TMN’s The Pillars of the Earth also achieved an impressive 10 nominations each, including Best Dramatic Mini-Series or TV Movie category.

The emerging Digital Media categories are led by nominations from the National Film Board of Canada with cross-platform producers Marblemedia and Shaftesbury Films also in the burgeoning competition.

New tonight: Flashpoint on CTV – “Through a Glass Darkly”

When Sue Fuller (Cynthia Preston, HAVEN) and her daughter Jess (Jordy Benattar, Charlie & Me) are abducted at gunpoint, Team One quickly discovers that Jess’s estranged grandmother Elaine (Linda Thorson, EMMERDALE FARM) may be involved. However, her fear and the crippling effect of Alzheimer’s prevent her from cooperating with the SRU. While Parker (Enrico Colantoni) and Jules (Amy Jo Johnson) work to bring Elaine on their side, the rest of Team One scrambles to locate Sue and Jess, who are in the clutches of kidnappers all too willing to sacrifice their hostages’ lives to save their own.

New tonight: Flashpoint on CTV – “Run Jamie Run”

Team One is hot on the trail of Jamie Dee (Brett Dier, MR. YOUNG), a young and charismatic modern-day Robin Hood who targets corporations, exposing their corrupt practices to a youthful horde of adoring online followers. When the Team identifies a pattern in Jamie’s crimes, they fear he’s working toward a final heist that will put his life – and others – in grave danger.
