(Premiere) The Ron James Show showcases the talents of renowned and much-beloved comedian Ron James, and his poetically charged observations about surviving life in the modern world. Anchored by James’ hilarious and razor-sharp stand-up comedy, the show will also feature an eclectic mix of in-studio sketches, field sketches and a weekly installment of L’il Ronnie, an animated look at James’ early childhood in Cape Breton. All of these segments will allow James to shine a humorous light on the frustrations and challenges everyday people face ‘in their daily march through life’s bright fury.’

    “Comedian Rick Mercer went to the wall for his CBC television show The Mercer Report in a stock car race on the weekend. He was in the last car in a three-vehicle crack-the-whip in a race on Saturday at Varney Speedway. The race was recorded for his show which returns to with new episodes on September 29 at 8 p.m.” Read more.

  • Reality, crime the success stories
    “Two Canadian programs broke into the Top 20 list for the first time: So You Think You Can Dance Canada (No. 14, with 1.4 million viewers), and Flashpoint (No. 18, with 1.3 million). Corner Gas drew more than a million viewers a week as well, for its swan-song season. Corner Gas is now closed, but So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Flashpoint are expected to return.” Read more.

Gemini award nominations announced

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is pleased to announce the nominations for the 24th Annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the year’s best in Canadian English-language television. The 2009 Broadcast Gala will take place on Saturday November 14th in Calgary, Alberta and will be broadcast live on Global and Showcase.

The drama Flashpoint leads the 2009 Gemini Awards nominations with a record 19 nominations, followed by The Tudors with 11 nominations. Being Erica, Diamonds, Less Than Kind, and The Border each received 9 nominations.
