Golden Maple Awards Nominees Revealed
The Academy of Canadians in Sports & Entertainment – Los Angeles today announced its nominees for the 2015 Golden Maple Awards in the categories of best actor, best actress and newcomer of the year in a TV series broadcast in the United States.

The nominees are all Canadian talent in TV series broadcasted in the U.S. between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015. The awards are designed to celebrate Canadian talent in the U.S and will be held on Canada Day, July 1, at a venue to be announced. Continue reading.

CBC’s latest prime-time offering, Schitt’s Creek is the embodiment of all that is wrong with current Canadian content regulations (commonly referred to as CanCon regulations). While the show is technically Canadian, starring as it does two of Canada’s most iconic comedians (Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara), the program conscientiously avoids having any identifiably Canadian characteristics. In an attempt to woo international program sales and generate much-needed income for the CBC, Schitt’s Creek has eschewed Canadianness for blandness. Continue reading.

Against all their high hopes and wishes, the Rose family is not getting out of Schitt’s Creek any time soon. Equally disappointing for viewers, our time with them has come to an end, for this season at least. Patriarch Johnny (Eugene Levy) came close to offloading the town before his buyer fell through at the last moment, leaving the family trapped for the foreseeable future. David (Dan Levy) was last seen presumably headed for New York City, daughter Alexis (Annie Murphy) had her hands full juggling two men vying for her affection, and Moira (Catherine O’Hara) may want to get that fur coat back from Ronnie Lee before Season 2 next year.
