Tiny Plastic Men premieres December 3 on Super Channel

From a media release:

Tiny Plastic Men Work Hard by Playing Harder

Are you a closet geek, openly nerdy, or just love geek culture and comedy in general? Then Mosaic Entertainment and Super Channel have a new part-sitcom, part-sketch comedy television series that will blow your nerd meter right off the charts. Tiny Plastic Men is a new comedy series format that will keep viewers entertained with fun nerdy characters and great storylines along with a generous dash of random sketches that let viewers’ imaginations run wild all at the same time.

Produced by Mosaic Entertainment, Tiny Plastic Men is a comedy series about three man-boys who work hard but play harder as toy prototype testers in their rec room style basement office at Gottfried Brothers Toy and Train Co. As they play in their weird world of toys, their imaginations take them into fantasy sketches where all their biggest nerd fantasies come true.

Fresh from the debut of their horror-comedy feature Truckstop Bloodsuckers on national comedy channel BITE and the third season of the popular award winning sketch comedy series for APTN CAUTION: May Contain Nuts, Executive Producers Camille Beaudoin and Eric Rebalkin are excited for the launch of Tiny Plastic Men. The series is created and written by two favorite Nuts, Matt Alden and Mark Meer (voice of Mass Effect’s Commander Shepard), and local theatre fav Chris Craddock, who also star as the three lead characters. With Calgarian writer Tony Binns and incredible animations from Riley Beach (spicybackpain), the show is just the perfect amount of live action, sketch comedy and animation. Additional local talent Belinda Cornish, Jesse Gervais, Jessica Hilbrecht, Andrew MacDonald-Smith, Amy Shostak and William Mitchell round out the cast along with seasoned veteran John B. Lowe (The Butterfly Effect) playing the toy company owner. “We have some of the best comedians and actors in the world right here in Edmonton, and they are showing up in spades on this series.” says Rebalkin. Georges Laraque, Michelle Molineux and James Higuchi make hilarious special guest stars.

Never one to just focus on one medium, Mosaic Entertainment is using the digital world to seriously expand their show’s reach and capitalize on the online geek culture fan base. “The gaming, collectibles, and genre fans are our favourite kind of audience, and Chris, Mark and Matt know this audience well because they are a part of it.” says Beaudoin. Not only will Tiny Plastic Men feature a unique interactive website (www.tinyplasticmen.ca) and strong Facebook and Twitter accounts that bring you daily information and tidbits on all things toy and collectible related (@TinyPlasticMen and www.facebook.com/TinyPlasticMen), but fans will also be able to interact directly with the lead characters of the show on Twitter (@CraddTPM, @OctoberTPM, @AddisonTPM). Rebalkin says, “The three lead characters are each so unique and funny that we thought who wouldn’t want to get to know them better? And it’s so awesome that the lead actors will actually each be running their own respective character’s twitter accounts.”

Tiny Plastic Men is set to air Mondays beginning December 3rd, 2012 on Super Channel. Visit www.superchannel.ca for more information.

Mr. Young season 3 premieres November 6

From a media release:

HIT SITCOM ‘MR. YOUNG’ GETS READY FOR SEASON 3

Mr. Young, the hit live-action series on YTV, is getting ready for its Season 3 premiere on Tuesday, November 6 at 7 p.m. ET/PT and audiences can’t get enough. The show, which was the first multi-camera TV series to film in front of a live audience in Canada, has been gaining fans and ratings across the globe – a true Canadian success story.

The series, created by Dan Signer (The Suite Life on Deck, A.N.T. Farm), revolves around child prodigy Adam Young (Brendan Meyer) who, having completed college at age 14, goes back to high school as a science teacher (instead of working for NASA). There, he reunites with his childhood best friend Derby (Gig Morton), and manages to develop a crush on a student in his class named Echo (Matreya Fedor).

In the third season opener, Adam’s robotic creation, A.R.T.H.U.R returns to Finnegan with his new robot family. Faced with babysitting his ‘grandkids,’ Adam enlists Echo’s help in the hopes that he can impress her with his parenting skills. Unfortunately for both of them, dealing with kids isn’t as easy as it looks.

This debut episode lays the groundwork for what promises to be the biggest season yet. Some of the series’ most loved characters, like Gordon Myren as A.R.T.H.U.R. return, alongside new and exciting guest stars, including Peter DeLuise and Brian Stepanek. Stepping outside the walls of Finnegan High, fans will also learn a great deal more about Adam, Echo, Derby and the rest of the group as they try their hand at magic, travel to the North Pole and test the boundaries of the space time continuum.

Produced by Vancouver-based Thunderbird Films, Mr. Young has paved the way for other sitcom style shows in Canada, including the company’s Package Deal, about three overly close brothers and the woman who comes between them, which started shooting on Oct 21 and will air in spring 2013.

The show’s broad humour has resonated with audiences not only in Canada, where it airs on YTV, and the US, where it airs on Disney XD in the primetime slot, but also internationally, making audiences in Spain, UK, France, Italy, and many other countries, roar with laughter. The show is distributed internationally by Nelvana Enterprises.

Mr. Young returns for its third season on YTV in Canada on November 6th, on the heels of the premiere of Thunderbird Films newest show, The Funny Pit, which hits YTV on November 4th at 9:30pm ET/PT.

Mohawk Girls greenlit for 6-episode series

From a media release:

APTN and OMNI Television Greenlight Edgy New Series, Mohawk Girls

  • Six-part series produced by Montreal-based Rezolution Pictures
  • Start of production slated for spring 2013 in the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory in Quebec
  • Cast includes Glen Gould (Cashing In) and Ashley Michaels (Snare)

APTN and OMNI Television announced today a partnership to greenlight the new co-production, Mohawk Girls. Produced by Montreal-based Rezolution Pictures, the six episode, 30-minute ‘dramedy’ series is slated to start production in spring 2013 in the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory, in Quebec. In addition to its English broadcasts on both networks, the series will also air in Mohawk on APTN and in Mandarin on OMNI Television. Further production and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.

Mohawk Girls is a half-hour ‘dramedy’ about four, sexy, twentysomethings trying to figure out what it means to be a modern day Mohawk woman. But with their parents, friends, and community having an opinion on how they should live their lives, it seems like an impossible task.

The cast features Glen Gould (Cashing In), Ashley Michaels (Snare), Kaniehtiio Horn (18 to Life), Kyle Nobess (Todd And The Book Of Pure Evil), and Rachelle White Wind (Moccasin Flats). New Canadian talent Brittany LeBorgne, Heather White, and Maika Harper also join the cast.

“OMNI Television is proud to profile diverse communities across Canada through its originally produced programming,” said Madeline Ziniak, National Vice-President, OMNI Television. “Mohawk Girls examines aboriginal contemporary life and values by exploring and sharing its realities in a very clever and entertaining way.”

“APTN is proud to partner in this exciting project that provides the opportunity for fresh, new voices that are true to our mission of sharing the stories of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada” said Jean LaRose, CEO of Aboriginal Peoples Television Network. “Mohawk Girls is a fitting example of a youthful perspective and fresh insight into what it means to be a young Aboriginal woman living in the 21st century.”

Created by Gemini Award-winning writer Tracey Deer, Mohawk Girls was inspired by Deer’s 2005 acclaimed feature-length documentary of the same name about the trials and tribulations of teenage girls growing up on the Mohawk reserve of Kahnawake.

Filmed in 2010, the pilot for Mohawk Girls was selected during the 2010 Cannes Film Festival to be a finalist in the first-ever International Pilots Competition at the Banff World Television Festival.

“From the creator to the cast, this series represents a new wave in Aboriginal talent,” said Rezolution Producer Christina Fon. “The series is about dealing with cultural obligations, social pressures, and deciding who you want to be as an adult. Those issues resonate with people from every ethnicity and background.”

Mohawk Girls is directed by Gemini Award-winning Deer who also serves as executive producer. Cynthia Knight is the series showrunner. Executive producers for Rezolution Pictures are Catherine Bainbridge, Christina Fon, Linda Ludwick and Ernest Webb.
