“Light and airy” Rookie Blue returns

From Alex Strachan of Postmedia News:

Rookie Blue finds colour in characters
Rookie Blue is back for summer, and with three full seasons under its belt, it no longer has the look or feel of a rookie. It has the natural, understated confidence of a TV drama that has survived stiff competition and increasingly fickle audience tastes. As cop shows go, Rookie Blue is light and airy — more Hawaii Five-0 than Southland. It’s not particularly gritty or intense, and the storylines are easy to pick up or drop in a heartbeat. Read more.

No sizzle to CBC’s season announcement

From John Doyle of the Globe and Mail:

All Sochi, no sizzle for CBC’s new fall season
Wednesday morning, a group of journalists, photographers, CBC execs and what’s called “the talent” (actors, comedians and such) assembled at CBC HQ here in Toronna. Reason was CBC’s 2013-14 season preview event. It went on for hours and, when I departed, I still wasn’t sure exactly what CBC has in store for Canada in the upcoming TV season. Apart from the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Hockey Night in Canada and the return of Battle of the Blades. Which everybody knew about, anyway. Read more.

Some Assembly Required casting call

From Thunderbird:

Are you a Canadian teen actor looking to be a star? We’re casting for a brand new YTV show that’s set to start filming in Vancouver, BC this summer. If you’ve got a knack for comedy and are interested in submitting an audition video – we want to hear from you!

What’s the show about? Well, when 14-year-old Jarvis Raines’ house is nearly destroyed on Christmas morning by a defective toy, he sues the company and ends up owning it. His first act as CEO is to fire the existing staff and replace it with kids from his high school — each with a valuable skill. Though this group would not normally be friends, they must work together and get to know each other better as they run the world’s first teen-owned game company. Some Assembly Required is the latest project from the producers of Mr. Young , ANT Farm and The Suite Life on Deck and will be coming to YTV in early 2014.

Casting is now open (closing June 7th), so go to the Audition page to find out how to apply. Good luck!
