Julia and Jera eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance Canada

Sixteen Dancers Remain as JULIA Harnett and JERA Wolfe are Eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance Canada

  • Top 16 Performance show airs at a new time of 8 p.m. ET on Monday, September 13

whl8223(1)CTV announced live tonight that JULIA and JERA would be leaving the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stage. The names of the two eliminated competitors were revealed after host Leah Miller announced the three couples who received the lowest number of votes and they danced for their lives. Sixteen dancers remain, with one ultimately earning the name of Canada’s Favourite Dancer.

The bottom three couples who performed their solos for the country this week were: JULIA Harnett, 26, Calgary, AB, and JESSE Weafer, 25, Aurora, ON who danced an emotional Contemporary routine; KIRSTEN Wicklund, 20, Vancouver, BC, and JERA Wolfe, 19, Inverness, NS who danced a old school Hip-Hop routine; and CLAUDIA Primeau, 26, Montreal, QC and EDGAR Gilbert-Reyes, 22, Calgary, AB who performed a passion filled Jazz routine. Following the reveal, each dancer had the opportunity to dance for their lives before the judges deliberated and decided that JULIA, a Latin Ballroom dancer and JERA, a Ballet dancer and Breaker, would be the two dancers eliminated from the competition.

Kicking off the results show was a group number choreographed by two-time Emmy Award-winner Mia Michaels. Set to “Let Go” by Mitzi Gaynor, the Top 18 performed sharp, intricate movements with a quirky feel that embodied the 1960s with a sleek mod look, complete with black rimmed glasses.

As the first season of Global’s smash hit Rookie Blue comes to a close with the gripping two-hour season finale tomorrow (Thursday, September 9 – 9pm ET/PT), this summer’s hottest show has earned a new commendation: the distinction of becoming the most-watched rookie season of any scripted Canadian TV series in two decades – on any network.

Averaging 1.8 million viewers each week, Rookie Blue has now surpassed Due South’s inaugural season in 1994 (1.7 million viewers). In the process, it has also become the most-watched Canadian program – scripted or unscripted – of the 2009/2010 broadcast year.

Some other key successes from Rookie Blue’s first season:

  • Won its competitive Thursday 9pm timeslot nationally 10 out of 11 weeks
  • Every episode of Rookie Blue was in the weekly national “Top 10” in Canada
  • Rookie Blue was the #1 show in Canada during the weeks of June 21 and July 19 – a new first for a Canadian scripted drama
  • Rookie Blue was watched by a total of 8.5 million viewers in Canada and the U.S. each week this summer – more than any other Canadian show
  • Confirmed data for the series premiere indicates that a record-breaking 2.2 million viewers watched the pilot episode in June – the highest-rated premiere for a Canadian drama series on any network in over a decade
  • Season 2 was greenlit only three weeks following its ground-breaking premiere on Global and ABC
