In the news: The Border filming

From Jim Bawden of the Toronto Star:

  • Hot Box: TV to talk about
It may have taken six years longer than planned but filming is underway on the new CBC drama series The Border. Originally conceived as a TV flick, it was all ready to go when the tragedy of 9/11 unfolded and the project deemed too sensitive went on the back burner. Executive producer Peter Raymont has restructured the material into a 13-week drama series starring James McGowan (Warriors Of Terra), Graham Abbey (Heartland) and Sofia Milos (CSI: Miami). Feeling is CBC will run it midseason.

In the news: Canadian Idol’s Toronto woes

From Macleans:

  • Nothing more than an Idol threat?
The executive producer of Canadian Idol, John Brunton, has come up with a novel way of promoting his show: attack the fans for their poor judgment. Earlier this month, Brunton put out a press release — the network, CTV, dubbed it a “Canadian Idol Alert” — in which he fumed that “anti-Toronto bias” among viewers is causing many of the best contestants to be sent home early.
