Painkiller Jane review

From TV with MeeVee – Painkiller Jane premieres April 21 on CH:

  • Totally Frakked: Painkiller Jane – Bring the Pain!
“The newest original series from Sci Fi, Painkiller Jane, took a circuitous route to the small screen. Originally a comic book, then adapted by Sci Fi for a 2005 TV movie, and now revived and rebooted as a weekly series with a brand-new cast. While Painkiller Jane‘s hardly a new idea, it seems like the show-runners are trying their hardest to make it fly on a weekly basis.”

In the news: Trailer Park Boys season 7 premiere

From Lee-Anne Goodman of the Canadian Press:

  • After silver screen success, Trailer Park Boys kick off seventh TV season
“Season 7 premieres Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on Showcase, and fans of the show won’t be disappointed. The first five minutes of the episode show the Boys at their hysterical best as they steal cuts of meat from a supermarket immediately after taking long hits from a bong. Bubbles, unfortunately, smokes more than he can handle, and vintage Trailer Park Boys chaos ensues.”

In the news: Media mergers

From the Georgia Straight:

  • Should average citizens be concerned if the CRTC allows CTVglobemedia and Canwest to swallow more stations?
“Obviously, this sale would deal a crippling blow to television markets across the country, opening the door to massive layoffs and relocation of existing workplaces to larger centres,” [Sally] Poulsen claimed in her submission, which is posted on the CRTC Web site (crtc.gc.ca/). “While this does concern me–especially given that I am currently an employee of CHUM Limited, and a former employee of Craig Broadcasting–it is far from my greatest worry. I believe this sale would be detrimental to Canadian television viewers, severely limiting their choices in an already pared-down environment.”
