In the news: Corner Gas and Little Mosque ratings

From Media in Canada:

  • Mosque and Gas finales ratings winners
“Though a far cry from its much-hyped premiere – which exploded on Jan. 9 with nearly 2.2 million viewers – CBC’s Little Mosque on the Prairie had a strong first-season finish. It nabbed more than 1.1 million viewers for the season finale entitled “Playing with Fire” on March 7, despite airing opposite CTV reality juggernaut American Idol.”

Stand up in Kandahar, CBC, March 14

From CBC:

FIVE COMICS, TWENTY-FIVE HUNDRED TROOPS AND TWO MISSILES: THE MAKINGS OF A GREAT COMEDY SPECIAL –

STAND UP IN KANDAHAR – AIRS ON CBC TELEVISION

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14 AT 8:00 PM (8:30 NT)

STAND UP IN KANDAHAR is a hilarious one-hour comedy special recently shot on location at Kandahar Air Field (KAF) in Afghanistan. KAF is the temporary home for about 2500 Canadian men and women serving in support of Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. STAND UP IN KANDAHAR airs on CBC Television, March 14 at 8:00 pm (8:30 NT)

The hour-long special is hosted by Shaun Majumder (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, “24”, Just For Laughs). Sharing the stage with him are some of Canada’s funniest stand up comedians: Mark Critch (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Halifax Comedy Fest), Irwin Barker (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Yuk Yuks, Winnipeg Comedy Festival), Tim Nutt (Just For Laughs Tour, Yuk Yuks), and Erica Sigurdson (Vancouver Comedy Festival, CBC Radio’s The Debaters, Halifax Comedy Fest).

The show taping was a standing-room-only hit, with all of the comedians successfully adapting to the unusual location. The show was interrupted by a Taliban rocket attack, which sent the audience and the talent scurrying to the bunkers. Not skipping a beat, the comedians turned the impromptu event into more grist for the comedic mill.

STAND UP IN KANDAHAR consists mainly of laugh-out-loud funny comedy delivered from the make-shift stage, plus additional “behind-the-scenes” footage filmed around the camp.

STAND UP IN KANDAHAR was shot by the CBC Halifax production crew, and is produced and directed by Geoff D’Eon.

In the news: Corner Gas goes on

From Playback:

  • Gas goes on, with new staff
“What a difference a red herring makes. CTV enjoyed a boost to its ratings on Monday night when the much-buzzed fourth season ender of Corner Gas aired to a record-setting two million viewers, coming in 29% higher than its season average, thanks — there can be little doubt — to the net’s carefully planted hints that the smash sitcom would not be brought back for a fifth.”
