Steffi D. walks right out of Canadian Idol

She had escaped elimination for four of the past five weeks after placing in the bottom group of vote-getters, but Steffi DiDomenicantonio’s dream of the Canadian Idol crown finally came to and end tonight. The 17-year-old high school student from Ottawa-Gatineau known across Canada for her trademark bows was eliminated during a live results show on CTV after receiving the fewest of a season-high 3.1 million votes cast last night. DiDomenicantonio was eliminated after performing “These Boots Are Made For Walking†during last night’s “Country Standards†episode. Now, just four remain representing the provinces of Saskatchewan, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland as Canada’s No. 1 show builds to its impending climax in September.

Canadian Idol compilation CD released
Only five remain in the hunt to become the next Canadian Idol. But the “spotlight†is on all 10 finalists today as SONY BMG MUSIC (CANADA) INC. releases a brand new compilation CD featuring the stars of summer’s biggest TV series. Canadian Idol Spotlights, featuring a track performed by each Top 10 finalist on the hit CTV series, was released in stores across the country today.
Canadian Idol Spotlights features the songs that won the hearts of voters across the country during the Canadian Idol semi-finals. The 10 songs – featured on CTV during the Top 22 round – catapulted the previously unknown singers into the spotlight and onto the Canadian Idol Top 10 stage.
Since its first season in 2003, Canadian Idol winners have dominated the Canadian music charts with sales exceeding Gold and Platinum record status, amassing combined sales of over 400,000 units. Last summer’s compilation CD, Canadian Idol High Notes, featured winner Melissa O’Neil and runner-up Rex Goudie, who both went on to record CDs for SONY BMG MUSIC (CANADA) INC.

CTV announced today that the legendary Tony Bennett will make his first appearance on any Idol program in the world when he graces Canadian Idol for episodes dedicated to his career on Monday, Sept. 4 and Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (check local listings). The Canadian Idol Top Three travel to the Big Apple next week to rehearse with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner and tape segments for “The Music of Tony Bennett,†airing Sept. 4. Then, Bennett, who says he and Rosemary Clooney were the first Idols, makes his world television premiere on the Idol franchise when he performs in a special, hour-long Canadian Idol results episode on Sept. 5 from 8 – 9 p.m. ET.
