The wait is over: it’s time to get up and dance Canada! CTV announced today the details for the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Season 2 cross-country audition tour, beginning April 4 in Vancouver. The five-city tour also makes stops in Edmonton, AB (April 7) and Saint John, NB (April 21) for the first time, as well as Toronto, ON (May 18) and Montréal, QC (May 26). More than 2,500 hopefuls auditioned for the heart-pounding inaugural season of the smash-hit series, which proved not only that Canadians can dance, but that Canada has some of the best dancers in the world. Who will be the next dancer to make Jean Marc Genereux’s VID (Very Important Dancer) list? Only those who break it down for the judges will have a chance to make the list, and become Canada’s next Favourite Dancer, taking home the $100,000 prize.

CTV also confirmed today that the charismatic cast from Season 1 will return, including host Leah Miller. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s esteemed panel of Canadian experts include Canada’s international ballroom champion Jean Marc Genereux and Canadian dancer extraordinaire Tré Armstrong. Also returning as guest judges are edgy choreographer Blake McGrath and hip-hop guru Luther Brown.

“I was blown away by the talent that came out to the first audition tour and am really excited to be a part of the search for Canada’s next favourite dancer!” said Host Leah Miller.

The SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Season 2 cross-country auditions are open to all Canadians who, as of April 1, 2009, are of the age of majority in the province/territory in which they reside, and are no older than 30 years of age. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in each city. For up-to-date information, visit the series’ official website, dance.ctv.ca.

In the news: TO TV tapings offer free entertainment

From Victoria Ahearn of the Canadian Press:

  • Free TV tapings offer recession-busting fun for residents and tourists
“Seeing a live show with big-name talent in Toronto doesn’t have to cost anything, if you look to the TV circuit. Megastars and musicians regularly roll through Canada’s most populous city to promote their projects on local talk shows, and audience members don’t pay a cent to be a part of the action – something that should appeal to many in these tough economic times.” Read more.

In the news: Mediocrity in 2008

From Brian Towie of Metro Canada:

  • Year of the Letdown
“Disappointment hardly encapsulates a grim year when dross thrived and the axe fell on the righteous and wicked alike. Puerile Yankee knock-offs such as Project Runway Canada and So You Think You Can Dance Canada drew huge audiences despite cringe-inducing banter from Tré Armstrong and Leah Miller — whose saccharine anima won’t abandon my brain no matter how many times I envision a flaming school bus crashing into a room full of harp seal puppies.” Read more.
