From Michael Simpson of CinemaSpy.com:

  • Reviewed! The Season 2 Premiere of ‘SGU: Stargate Universe’
“Stargate Universe returns to Syfy for its second season on September 28th with lives on the line. Fans of the show will be wondering what becomes of the de facto crew of Destiny, most of whom we last saw under the thumb of the Lucian Alliance. Regular readers of my SGU reviews will know that I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the first season’s finale, ‘Incursion, Part 2’ (or with the season as a whole, for that matter). So how does the S2 premiere, ‘Intervention,’ fare?” Read more.

From a media release:

STARGATE UNIVERSE Rockets Back onto SPACE for Season 2, Beginning October 1

  • Nine-time 2010 Gemini nominee returns for dramatic second season exclusively on SPACE
  • All-star cast starring Robert Carlyle, David Blue and Louis Ferreira

sgu 0171-poster web(2)SPACE’s most-watched series, STARGATE UNIVERSE (SGU), invites viewers to follow their “Destiny” when it blasts back onto the small screen Friday, Oct. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. After a gripping Season 1 finale, control of the Destiny hangs in the balance as the battle continues between the crew and the Lucian Alliance. Shot in Vancouver, the nine-time 2010 Gemini nominated series is also available on demand at www.spacecast.com immediately following its television premiere.

SGU joins SPACE’s electric fall line-up including CAPRICA and SANCTUARY, as previously announced.

When it premiered last October on SPACE, SGU attracted a record-breaking audience for the channel with 624,000 viewers*, before going on to become a ratings juggernaut as one of the most-watched series on SPACE. The series is also critically acclaimed, and has already been nominated for 22 awards, including a 2010 Emmy® for “Outstanding Visual Effects”. SGU was recently nominated for nine Gemini Awards, including “Best Dramatic Series”, “Best Lead Actor” and “Best Director” among others. SGU is tied for second for most 2010 Gemini nominations for a drama behind CTV’s hit series FLASHPOINT.

SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard the ancient ship Destiny, set on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.

Season 1 left off with The Destiny crew fighting for their lives when members of the Lucian Alliance come through the Stargate, bent on taking the ship by force. In the Season 2 premiere, control of the Destiny hangs in the balance as the battle continues between the crew and the Lucian Alliance.

SGU stars Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The Full Monty) as Dr. Nicholas Rush, a brilliant scientific mind whose motives are not what they appear to be. The series also stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith and Canadian actors Louis Ferreira, Alaina Huffman, Elyse Levesque, and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.

STARGATE UNIVERSE is written and executive produced by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper (STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS).
