Iman to host Project Runway Canada

A media release from Slice:

Slice(TM) and Insight Production Company Ltd. announced today that world-renowned style icon Iman will host Project Runway Canada.

“I am very excited to host Project Runway Canada because I love the integrity of the format, and this series will showcase the talent of Canadian designers. Whenever you put a diverse group of people together who are hungry to make their mark in their chosen professions, feathers and hemlines will fly!” says Iman. “I love every aspect of fashion and have been fortunate enough to work with the best in our business including Mr. Saint Laurent, Mr. Valentino, Mr. Versace, and Mr. Lagerfeld. Fashion is truly an art form and on Project Runway Canada we hope to showcase tomorrow’s international fashion visionaries. Let the stitching begin!”

“Iman is one of the most successful and beautiful supermodels of all-time and to have her as host of Project Runway Canada is an absolute dream. Our viewers really connected with her as a guest judge on the U.S. series, and we know that they, along with the competitors, will be thrilled by this announcement. If by chance she happens to reveal the secret that keeps her as beautiful as ever during the process, we’ll just consider that a bonus!” says Vanessa Case, Vice President, Content, Slice(TM), Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.

“We are thrilled to be working with Iman. Her elegance, beauty and stature within the fashion world truly make her an international star. Her dedication to charities that help children around the world is phenomenal. She is the perfect fit to lead this series”, says John Brunton, Executive Producer and President and CEO of Insight Productions.

The series will find 12 designers competing for the once-in-lifetime chance to show collections at a premiere fashion event in fall 2007. Ultimately, one designer will claim their rightful place in the spotlight, winning the top prize, including $100 000 to begin their own fashion line and a feature spread showing their winning collection in the pages of the country’s foremost fashion magazine.

Produced by Insight Production Company Ltd, the highly-anticipated Canadian adaptation of the Emmy-nominated U.S. series, developed by Miramax and The Weinstein Company for Bravo, is set to debut with Slice’s(TM) fall 2007 season. The Project Runway format is licensed
to Slice(TM) and Insight Production Company Ltd. by FremantleMedia
Enterprises, the commercial division of FremantleMedia, one of the largest
creators, producers, distributors and licensors of programmes brands in the world.

Iman began her modelling career in 1975 and has challenged the prevailing notions of beauty ever since. The daughter of an African diplomat, Iman was born in Somalia and grew up speaking five languages. She studied political science at Nairobi University where she was discovered by legendary photographer Peter Beard. After her first modelling assignment for Vogue in 1976, Iman was an instant success in the fashion world and a muse for famous designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. During her 14 years as a model, she worked with top photographers Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Annie Leibovitz.

In addition to running her global beauty company she is also actively involved in several charities, including The Children’s Defense Fund, For All
Kids Foundation, and Action Against Hunger. As the Global Ambassador for Keep a Child Alive (www.keepachildalive.org) she has conceived and is spearheading a national campaign called I AM AFRICAN to help awareness and raise funds for the AIDS pandemic that is ravaging her homeland. Iman has authored two books, “The Beauty of Color” and her autobiography “I am Iman”. She is married to David Bowie and is the mother of two children.
