In the first episode of Season 2 (July 12), the frigate HDMS Absalon, the biggest ship in the Danish navy sets sail to hunt modern-day pirates who have been terrorizing the waters off Somalia, capturing ships and taking hostages at gunpoint with increasing frequency. It’s a highly active mission, in the hottest pirate zone in the world, and MIGHTY SHIPS is in the thick of it. The Absalon Special Forces team hunts down ruthless and well-armed pirates, using lethal resources. At stake are the lives of the Absalon crew, and the safety of every ship that sails the waterways around the Horn of Africa.
Giving viewers the highest level of access imaginable, MIGHTY SHIPS peers into engine rooms, bridges and bilges and meets captains, engineers and able seamen, as it reveals it all from the mechanics of modern sea-going to the high stakes human drama seafarers face.
Using high-end HD visuals and extraordinary 5.1 surround sound, MIGHTY SHIPS covers every waterfront to explore pirate-hunting naval frigates, icebreakers and massive state-of-the-art container ships, to fibre optic cable layers, sophisticated factory trawlers in the dangerous arctic seas and lethal nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.
To enhance the MIGHTY SHIPS experience across media, www.DiscoveryChannel.ca features captain bios, behind-the-scenes info about the ships, photography, and on-demand episodes available one week following broadcast.
