All six Next Star hopefuls will be on-hand from 1-2 p.m. at Canada’s Wonderland for an autograph session.
Viewers are encouraged to cast their unlimited votes for their favourite finalist via text message or by visiting YTV.com until Sunday, September 25 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). Emotional. Crazy. Soulful. Throwback. Electric. Ask emerging superstar Kay to list five adjectives that best sum up her sound, and she immediately ticks off those disparate yet captivating words. Which is coincidental because while “emotional, crazy, soulful, throwback†and “electric†do indeed conjure Kay’s giddy, hiphop-goosed pop, they also serve as handy sub-headlines for a career trajectory that’s zoomed from pastoral Nova Scotia to Los Angeles via London and Vancouver in just a few years, making believers out of tastemakers like DJ Tiësto and OneRepublic songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder along the way.
Victoria Duffield, a Top 6 finalist from the third season of The Next Star, is not afraid of being in the spotlight, as proven by her spirited debut single through Warner Music, “Shut Up and Dance.†The track from Victoria – the singer, dancer and actor from Abbotsford, British Columbia – is a brazen dancefloor anthem. “I want people to listen to the song and get lost in it,†she says. “I want to share my love of dance through songs that people can connect with, through both the lyrics and the beats that can’t help but make you want to dance.â€
About the host and judges:
Over the past four seasons, host Adamo Ruggiero (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has received multiple Gemini nominations for his work on The Next Star. Award-winning singer, Suzie McNeil, released her latest single “Drama Queen†in February as a preview to her highly anticipated fourth album launching later this year. JUNO Award-winning composer and MuchMusic’s first VJ, Christopher Ward, has written a number of chart-topping singles including Black Velvet for Alannah Myles and most recently penned songs for Cirque du Soleil’s Banana Shpeel. With 23 years’ experience in music marketing under his belt, Steve Cranwell sure knows what it takes to make a star. Just ask Kanye West, Rihanna, Shania Twain or Sarah Harmer, a few of the many sensations Steve worked with during his tenure at Universal Music Canada.
