Link: A ‘Breaking Bad’ writer and producer is behind a new Anne of Green Gables
“Anne is timeless, but she’s timely right now. I’m not influenced by what’s come before. I feel like Anne’s issues are incredibly relevant and topical right now. There’s so much conversation in the world about gender parity and feminism and prejudice and those who come from away. People who are other. All of these conversations are within L.M. Montgomery’s writing. It’s the perfect time to talk about it again.” Continue reading.Â
So far, I’ve liked what I’ve seen. The 1985 miniseries is my favourite thing ever to air on Canadian tv , I’ve read every L.M. book I could get my hands on at least twice and I made a “pilgrimage” to L.M.’s grave and Green Gables when I was 16 so I don’t offer my praise for this latest incarnation lightly. I care a great deal about the character and I think the show does a good job at maintaining Anne’s original spirit and life events, while adding something not seen before of the character’s world. My only hope is that major events remain intact in the story. I am still disappointed in the sequel to the 85 miniseries where the story was completely different than the actual book.
