    “Two Canadian programs broke into the Top 20 list for the first time: So You Think You Can Dance Canada (No. 14, with 1.4 million viewers), and Flashpoint (No. 18, with 1.3 million). Corner Gas drew more than a million viewers a week as well, for its swan-song season. Corner Gas is now closed, but So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Flashpoint are expected to return.” Read more.

With CTV’s Flashpoint receiving 19 nominations and the CBC’s period drama The Tudors garnering 11, the underlying message at Tuesday’s Gemini nomination announcement was less about the perseverance of Canadian TV shows and broadcasters during the economic downturn.     ” Proving it’s no Flashpoint in the pan, the CTV cop series Flashpoint has racked up a record 19 Gemini Award nominations. And even more importantly for Flashpoint, CTV — expressing confidence that the series now is a bona fide Canadian hit, regardless of the vague plans for the show on U.S. network CBS — will begin airing more new episodes of Flashpoint on Sept. 25.” Read more.

In the news: Hugh Dillon on Flashpoint’s Gemini nominations

    “Reached in cottage country north of Toronto, Dillon said he was proud to see the shows’ writers also win some recognition. ‘I’m so proud of the writers – Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern – and the producers Anne Marie La Traverse and Bill Mustos,’ said Dillon, also nominated for his supporting role in the CTV movie, Of Murder and Memory.” Read more.
