WGC Screenwriting Award nominations announced

Outstanding list of finalists announced for the 2009 WGC Screenwriting Awards

The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) will celebrate the winning words of 2008 on April 20 at the 13th Annual WGC Screenwriting Awards, honouring excellence in screenwriting. More than 150 scripts vied for the judges’ attentions this year. The entries have been narrowed to 37 finalist scripts across 11 categories, including screenwriting for feature film, episodic half-hours and one-hours, documentary film and more. In all, 51 screenwriters are up for awards. Several special awards, including the WGC Showrunner Award, will also be handed out at the event. Click here for a full list of nominees.

Interview: Enrico Colantoni of Flashpoint

    “The former Just Shoot Me and Veronica Mars star talked about his series, which focuses on the SRU, a Canadian-based SWAT type unit. Shot in Toronto, the Canadian produced series has become a hit on CBS – and Colantoni and I also spoke about what it’s like starring in one of the only Canadian-shot series on American television that isn’t supposed to be set in the US. You’ll also see Colantoni reference the simulator we used that day, which included footage of actors playing out some very scary scenarios cops find themselves confronting, with the player required to make some very quick, tricky decisions.” Read more.

  • Flashpoint Picks off Dollhouse
    “According to overnight estimates, the Toronto-lensed sniper series pulled 1,292,000 Total CTV viewers this past Friday at 9, the highest score of the night. CTV’s Ghost Whisperer was second overall with 1,184,000 viewers at 8. CBC’s Rick Mercer repeat drew 599,000, with Marketplace kicking in another 665,000 at 8:30. Global`s fading Howie Do It snared 459,000.” Read more.
