Blackstone returns March 24

Prairie Dog Film + Television begins production on the third season of Blackstone this Sunday, March 24. Blackstone’s powerhouse lineup of talent returns to the show, and includes Carmen Moore, Eric Schweig, Michelle Thrush, Nathaniel Arcand, Steven Cree Molison, Andrea Menard, Tantoo Cardinal, and Garry Chalk.

New to the series are John Cassini (Arrow, Intelligence), Tinsel Korey (Sanctuary, The Twilight Saga), Cheri Maracle (Moccasin Flats, Blackfly), Bronson Pelletier (Renegade Press, The Twilight Saga), Wayne Baker (Pathfinder, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) and Dakota House (The Horses of McBride, One Dead Indian).

Intense, compelling and confrontational, Blackstone is an unmuted exploration of power, politics and relationships on the fictional Blackstone First Nation. This original dramatic TV series is unlike any other show on the air today. Entertaining and informative, Blackstone is a story of hope and reconciliation in its portrayal of Native people fighting for better lives – on and off the reserve. To date, Blackstone has won 20 awards and received 49 award nominations, including three nominations at this year’s Canadian Screen Awards.

Canada’s Handyman Challenge names winner, opens casting

WINNER DECLARED IN SEASON FINALE OF CANADA’S HANDYMAN CHALLENGE

For the last eight weeks HGTV Canada celebrities Scott McGillivray (Income Property), Bryan Baeumler (Leave It To Bryan) and Paul Lafrance (Disaster Decks) have been drilling and judging the country’s top amateur handyman talent to find the best of the best in Canada’s Handyman Challenge. In last night’s adrenaline-fueled finale featuring guest judge Mike Holmes (Holmes Makes It Right), 29-year-old Maria Nestoras from Hamilton, Ont. brought home the $25,000 prize and the respect of the top men in the business.

Maria has come out on top of competitors from Vancouver to Halifax who have competed in rigorous challenges ranging from wiring and carpentry to upholstery and wallpapering.
