    Mr. D (CBC, starts Jan. 9) is dopey, deadpan and quietly hilarious. Comedian – and former high-school teacher – Gerry Dee stars as a seriously underqualified but ambitious teacher stumbling through classes and school politics.     Canadian comedian Gerry Dee has turned his former life as a teacher into a sitcom about a teacher, and the odd thing is, it was his plan all along. “It always was my approach when I started in standup, from day one, to take my life as a teacher and make it into a sitcom,” said Dee, whose new show – aptly titled Mr. D – debuts Monday, Jan. 9 on CBC. Stylish Bomb Girls “terrific”

  • Bomb Girls is an explosive homegrown TV drama
    Stylistically, the program is reminiscent of Douglas Sirk’s technicolour melodramas of the 1950s, or the colour saturated sets and wardrobes that we’ve seen in Mad Men. There’s a particular look to this period, and director Adrienne Mitchell, not wanting to fall back on the sepia tones so frequently used in period dramas, opted to use to a special kind of HD Kodachrome film look so the series would vibrantly pop.
