Showcase producing Testees

From a media release:

TESTEES JOINS SHOWCASE FALL LINE-UP
Half-Hour Comedy Series from Kenny Hotz Slated to Premiere in October on Showcase and FX

  • Production on 13 episodes to begin late summer

Never one to shy away from provocative Canadian comedy, Canwest announced today that Testees, an edgy new half-hour comedy series from outrageous Showcase personality Kenny Hotz, will air on the channel this fall. The show is a co-production with Canwest for Showcase in Canada and FX in the United States. It will premiere exclusively Showcase in Canada and FX in the U.S. this October.

Testees stars Canadian newcomers Steve Markle as “Peter” and Jeff Kassel as “Ron,” and two best friends and roommates in their early 30s who work as test subjects for “TESTICO,” a less-than-normal product testing facility. In each episode, Peter and Ron are given a new product, experimental medication or treatment to test. The side effects from these are usually ridiculous and almost always negative. The roommates just try to live their lives while waiting for the side effects from these untested products to wear off.

“The minute Kenny Hotz brought us this wild idea we knew it was perfect for Showcase. Showcase viewers love the way Kenny’s brain works and we can’t wait to bring Testees to Canadian audiences this fall,” says Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President, Drama and Factual Content, Canwest.

The Testees pilot was written by Hotz and Derek Harvie and directed by Samir Rehem. Hotz is executive producing, along with John Morayniss and Michael Rosenberg of Blueprint Entertainment. Blueprint Entertainment is producing in association with Canwest and FX.
