In the news: Canadian Idol performances start

With a little hyperbole, CTV recounts last night’s Canadian Idol:

Tina Comeau of the The Yarmouth Vanguard writes about a hometown contender:

  • Votes pour in Monday night for Dwight d’Eon on Canadian Idol
“Monday night was the night West Pubnico’s Dwight d’Eon performed with the Top 11 male performers on Canadian Idol. It was also the first chance fans got to vote for d’Eon to keep him in the competition and move him towards the Top 10.”

In the news: Jay Manuel of Canada’s Next Top Model

Sarah Hampson of the Globe and Mail paints a slightly ridiculous portrait of the man self-described as the “Director of the Esthetic”:

  • When a man becomes a brand
“Tyranny of the Esthetic would be a better name for his work. Mr. Manuel is symptomatic of the cultural preoccupation with surface. He is prickly about which physical attributes are real and which are not, perhaps because so much is enhanced or fake.”
