CTV’s Corner Gas Secures U.S. Distribution Deal With Superstation WGN

Corner Gas: Coming soon to 70 million U.S. homes and in countries across 5 continents including Australia, Iraq, Finland and more

Canada’s No. 1 comedy has gone international. CTV announced today that smash hit original comedy series Corner Gas has secured a U.S. distribution deal with American cable network Superstation WGN. The series will be available in nearly 70 million U.S. homes beginning in 2007. The deal was secured by Arthur Hasson’s Multi-Platform Distribution Company (MPDC), which began shopping Canada’s No. 1 comedy and most-watched Canadian series in May 2006.

With today’s announcement, Corner Gas follows in the footsteps of several CTV original series which have gone on to premiere in the US. The list includes Comedy Inc., Comedy Now!, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Instant Star and Whistler.

The two-year, 88-episode deal provides exclusive rights to the series in cable and broadcast.

Directed by Antonio Hrynchuk and produced by Lori Kuffner, the film gives viewers a taste of what life is like in a medium-security prison and the struggles these former inmates face as they try to reintegrate into society with limited job skills and little or no family support.

Corner Gas book, Christmas special

Corner Gas Companion Book “Tales From Dog River” Rockets to #2 on Industry Best Seller List; Moves into Second Printing

– Annual Corner Gas Christmas Special “Merry Gasmas” Returns Dec. 11 on CTV –

Tales from Dog River: The Complete Corner Gas Guide has made a high-octane debut on Canada’s bestseller list. The companion guide to Canada’s most-watched comedy series has landed at #2 on the BookManager bestseller list, just behind Giller Prize winner Vincent Lam’s Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures. As a result of its success, Penguin Books has confirmed that the book will now move into a second printing to meet the holiday demand. The weekly BookManager list is compiled from actual sales of titles released in more than 200 independent Canadian booksellers.

CTV also announced today that “Merry Gasmas” – the Christmas special that became the most-watched Corner Gas episode ever when it reached nearly three million viewers last December, has been scheduled to be rebroadcast Monday, December 11 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (check local listings). The episode will also air on The Comedy Network on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Thursday, Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The success of Tales from Dog River follows overwhelming fan turn-outs at book signings with Corner Gas star Brent Butt in Saskatoon, Regina and Toronto. CTV also announced today that Corner Gas star Eric Peterson will appear at book signings at Chapters in Edmonton (Dec. 2) and at Perfect Books in Ottawa (Dec. 4). Co-stars Gabrielle Miller and Janet Wright will appear at a book signing at Chapters in Halifax on Dec. 5.
