Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed Global original Departure premieres Wednesday, July 13

All aboard! Global is set to launch Season 2 of event thriller Departure on Wednesday, July 13 at 9 p.m. ET, with an encore presentation Friday, July 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Global and Monday, July 18 at 9 p.m. ET on Showcase. Departure stars Emmy Award® winner Archie Panjabi and the late Academy Award® winner Christopher Plummer, in his last onscreen role. The intense conspiracy series follows the ensuing investigation into a mysterious crash of a controversial new high-speed train travelling between Toronto and Chicago. Back for an action-packed all-new six-episode season, Departure was a Top 20 hit with total viewers and the #1 Canadian series across all key demos when it premiered in 2020.

Alongside Panjabi (The Good Wife) and Plummer (Knives Out), Season 2 features an all-star ensemble cast including Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy), Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle), Karen LeBlanc (The Kings of Napa), Donal Logue (Gotham), Mark Rendall (Versailles), Etienne Kellici (Murdoch Mysteries), Kelly McCormack (A League of Their Own), Wendy Crewson (Frankie Drake Mysteries), Charlie Carrick (Reign), Dion Johnstone (Sweet Magnolias), David Hewlett (The Shape of Water), Greg Bryk (Mary Kills People) and Florence Ordesh (Dublin Murders). The gripping drama is directed by Canadian Screen Award winner T.J. Scott (Orphan Black, Star Trek: Discovery) and created by Vincent Shiao (Ransom).

Departure Season 2 is a six-part event series that follows the investigation into the derailment of high-speed train The Apollo. Brilliant investigator, Kendra Malley (Archie Panjabi), heads to the U.S. to find the cause of the devastation in rural Michigan. With the eyes of the entire world on her, Kendra and her team unravel a series of interconnected threads, which lead to a number of mysterious motives. Was it the tech mogul inventor of the train’s automation software? Was it a mysterious member of a Mexican drug cartel? Was it a disgruntled employee resisting new technology? Working in conjunction with the FBI, Kendra must race to uncover the truth behind the crash and help to heal the damage caused by the terrible tragedy.

Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer return to Departure Season 2

Shaftesbury announced today that season two of Departure has begun production in Toronto. Produced by Shaftesbury and Deadpan Pictures, the gripping drama is directed by Canadian Screen award winner T.J. Scott (Orphan Black, Star Trek: Discovery), and created by Vincent Shiao.

Season two of Departure focuses on the tragic crash of a high-speed automated train – the Apollo – travelling from Toronto to Chicago. Kendra Malley (Emmy® winner Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife) leads the investigation into an accident that leaves multiple deaths in its wake and a web of potential suspects: the tech visionary who invented the train’s control system; the anti-technology politician, and the FBI prisoner who disappears after the crash. When the feds swoop in to initiate a manhunt, Kendra’s investigation evolves from finding the causes of the crash to working with federal agents to capture the fugitive – who may be the root cause of the entire disaster. Along with Archie Panjabi, season two features an all-star ensemble cast including Oscar® winner Christopher Plummer (Knives Out), Kris Holden-Reid (Umbrella Academy), Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle), Mark Rendall (Departure), Kelly McCormack (Killjoys), Karen Le Blanc (Ransom), Wendy Crewson (Frankie Drake), Charlie Carrick (Reign), Donal Logue (Gotham), Dion Johnstone (Sweet Magnolias) and Greg Bryk (Mary Kills People).

Season one will air in Canada on Global beginning October 8 and on Peacock/Universal starting September 17. Departure is distributed by Red Arrow Studios International, with Starlings Television handling the sale to Peacock/Universal. NBCUniversal International Networks (NBCUIN) acquired season one and two for Europe and Africa and season one has already aired in those territories.

Global announced today that it has commissioned a new Canadian original six-part event series, Departure. Produced by Shaftesbury and Greenpoint Productions Ltd., the thrilling drama is directed by Canadian Screen Award Winner T.J. Scott (Orphan Black, Star Trek: Discovery), with Malcolm MacRury (Saving Hope) joining as showrunner, and created by Vincent Shiao (Ransom, Aftermath). With principal photography now underway in Toronto, the Canada/UK co-production will also shoot in London, England. The project was developed by Shaftesbury in association with Corus Entertainment and Red Arrow Studios International.

Departure is a six-part event series that follows the shocking disappearance of Flight 716, a passenger plane that vanishes over the Atlantic Ocean. Kendra Malley (Panjabi), the recently widowed, brilliant aviation investigator, is called in by her former boss and mentor Howard Lawson (Plummer) to investigate the mysterious crash. With the whole world watching, Kendra and her team race to pinpoint the missing aircraft and locate possible survivors. They must battle through a host of suspects and motives – pilot suicide, terrorism, politically motivated murder, systems failure – to determine what really happened to Flight 716… and to stop it from happening again.

This newly greenlit series is the final original series commissioned by Global for the 2019 broadcast year joining Nurses, Ransom, Mary Kills People, Private Eyes, and Big Brother Canada.
