Prolonged laughter is often the cause of HICCUPS. This isn’t news for HICCUPS creator and writer Brent Butt: his latest brainchild, and CTV’s newest original series, premieres Monday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). The 13-part, half-hour comedy series stars Nancy Robertson as Millie Upton, a successful children’s author who’s prone to flying off the handle, and features Brent Butt as Stan Dirko, Millie’s less-than-qualified life-coach. Together, they work through Millie’s…err…unpredictable spasms, and lead the laughs on CTV’s two-hour Monday night comedy block.

CTV announced today it has strategically scheduled three new Original Canadian series to debut next month, immediately following the conclusion of the VANCOUVER 2010 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES. The three series will benefit from weeks of promotion during what is to be one of the most-watched television events of the year.

Production Begins on CTV’s HICCUPS, a New Original Comedy Series From Brent Butt

  • Production now underway in Vancouver, BC

CTV, in association with The Comedy Network and Sparrow Media, announced today that principal photography is underway on the original comedy series, HICCUPS, in Vancouver, BC. From the star and mastermind behind CTV’s hit comedy CORNER GAS, Brent Butt returns to helm his latest project as creator, writer, executive producer and co-star. The 13-part, half-hour series stars the hilarious Nancy Robertson (CORNER GAS) as the lead character and will continue production through November. HICCUPS is the second CTV/The Comedy Network comedy series to begin production this month, the first being DAN FOR MAYOR, starring Fred Ewanuick (CORNER GAS, ROBSON ARMS).

    “Brent Butt didn’t write the role of Millie Upton, the dysfunctional children’s writer in his new comedy Hiccups, with his wife in mind, he said Wednesday. Nancy Robertson, his wife of three years, plays Upton in a pilot of the show, already shot and set to be shown in 2009. Butt is now waiting for CTV’s go-ahead to turn Hiccups into a series.” Read more.
