  1. Online polls are not exactly accurate in that there’s people who vote hundreds of times to bring up the vote tally but they are a good indicator of how rabid a fan base is. It’s really nice to see that there are Canadian shows with fans that are so passionate about them. Of all the Canadian shows I’ve watched over the years, I can honestly say that there’s been very few Canadian shows I’ve been very passionate about. Not very many shows have made me giddy with excitement at the start of an episode or had me shipping a particular couple across seasons or impatiently awaiting a new season or spending two hours bringing up a votecount on an online poll. Thinking back, the only ones I can remember being that way about were Road to Avonlea, North of 60, the original Degrassi and now Orphan Black and Vikings. Looking at my 10 fave shows of all time, none were Canadian (McLeod’s Daughters, Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, Party of Five, Dark Angel, Veronica Mars, My So-Called Life, Freaks & Geeks and Alias). I think maybe that’s because the types of shows I like rarely get made up here or if they do they never survive. Until Orphan Black. It’s a show with a kickbutt lead female, a great mythology, a smattering of romance, some interesting friendships and an exciting storyline. The same can be said of Vikings, other than the fact that that show actually has a male lead but there’s still some strong female characters. Both those shows are co-pros and I’m a tad disappointed the 4 major Canadian networks haven’t come out with anything themselves that has me crazy fanatical about. Strange Empire looked promising but I’ve been rather disappointed.

    1. You names off some great shows have you tried watching lost girl !!! And big brother is the same American or Canadian just supports us Canadians An you may also enjoy heartland. The point of these polls is so we can get Canadian shows out there so people are like eh I’m going I binge on this Canadian show

      1. I gave Lost Girl a 5-episode try last year but there were so many episodes I was behind on and it just wasn’t must-see enough for me to catch up with–if I’d watched from the beginning I probably would have stuck with it. And I’m not a reality tv fan–the only reality show I watch now is Masterchef. I did give Big Brother Canada a shot the first season but it ticked me off that only 5 provinces were represented and I didn’t like the season enough to stick around. I do really like Heartland. It’s actually my third favourite current Canadian tv show but it’s not one I’d say I’m passionate about. There are 41 current tv shows I watch (yes, I know, that’s way too much but they aren’t all on at the same time and many of them I’m behind on). Here are where the 14 Canadian shows I watch rank on my list:
        Orphan Black #2
        Vikings #9
        Hard Rock Medical #15
        Heartland #19
        Mohawk Girls #20
        Degrassi #24
        Remedy #25
        Blackstone #26
        Strange Empire #27
        Bitten #29
        Continuum #30
        Republic of Doyle #34
        Masterchef Canada #37
        Saving Hope #41
