Degrassi

Degrassi, MuchMusic – “Bitter Sweet Symphony Part One”
It’s a new semester, but Cam’s hesitant about coming back to Degrassi after an amazing week at home. Dallas wants a date with a reluctant Alli and makes it his mission to win her over. A major turn of events for Eli brings back things past.

Transporter: The Series, HBO Canada – “Sharks”
Frank must transport a million euros from Paris to Marseille while racing against two other elite runners each with the same package and destination. The client whose transporter wins will gain an important missile contract. Word of the race has reached two gangs that decide to try and rob the money but Frank, who needs to prove he’s the one and only worthwhile transporter on the market, doesn’t intend to let himself be swindled. The task is further complicated by a mysterious hitchhiker, who can not be shaken off and wants to know everything about Frank.

Degrassi’s ironic legacy

From Benjamin Boles of Now Toronto:

  • Degrassi’s sweetly ironic legacy
Back in the pre-Internet era, I remember watching old Degrassi episodes with my teenage friends, and feeling a peculiar emotion that fell somewhere between ironic appreciation and authentic affection. That paradoxical combination of conflicting feelings now seems to be the default setting for a generation of kids who’d rather not be described as hipsters, and the cult appeal of Canada’s longest running tween drama is even bigger than it was back in the irony-loving 90s. It seems like there’s a constant flow of weird Degrassi-related news popping up all the time, even after 33 years on the air. Read more.

Degrassi goes on … and on … and on

1degrassilogo_hi

From Karissa Donkin of the Toronto Star:

  • Kids move on, but high school life keeps Degrassi going
Tucked at the bottom of a TV Guide Canada cover from February 2002 is a picture of four kids sitting on the steps of a school. Above that picture is a headline branding Degrassi: The Next Generation, then only four months old, one of the best five TV shows people weren’t watching. More than 10 years later, and 33 years since the TV story was first conceived, Degrassi is still on the air. The franchise, which also includes The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, is now the longest running Canadian drama ever, with more than 400 episodes. Read more.
