Shaw Media announces Canadian scripted dramas

  • 15 New Dramas Build On Record-Breaking 2010/11 Homegrown Lineup

Illustrating its continuing commitment to the Canadian television production industry, Shaw Media announced today that it has 15 new scripted dramas planned for the next year – more than any other Canadian broadcaster. This ongoing focus on outstanding Canadian productions, co-productions and partnerships delivered record audiences during the 2010/11 season with homegrown programs Rookie Blue, Lost Girl and The Kennedys.

New tonight: Hiccups on CTV – “Hollywood Makeup”

 

In Season 2 of HICCUPS, Nancy Robertson returns as the hot-headed children’s author Millie Upton, who continues to give her “life coach” Stan Dirko (Brent Butt) a run for his (lack of) money. In the season premiere, a trip to Hollywood is in order for Millie, Stan and Taylor (David Ingram) to investigate some options for a Grumpaloo movie. Back at the Haddison House, Joyce (Laura Soltis) uses Anna (Paula Rivera) and Crystal (Emily Perkins) as guinea pigs to test homemade skin care products.

Nikki Payne stars in Single White Spenny

    Now 35, Payne realized her dream as a stand up comedian and has moved on to TV. She’s now a regular on the new series “Single White Spenny” debuting this summer on Showcase. “I’m so excited,” she said from her apartment in Toronto. “I’ve had guest roles before but this is my first series.” Read more.

Lauren Ash stars in Almost Heroes

  • City woman scores sitcom role
    Lauren Ash, 28, has a lead role in Almost Heroes, a new comedy debuting June 2 on the Showcase channel. “It’s exciting because it’s new and it’s Canadian and it’s really, really funny,” Ash said Monday from Los Angeles. But executive producer Jason Belleville — no connection to the city — has both a request and a warning for citizens here. “Please support your local talent,” Belleville said Monday in a telephone interview from the Toronto area. “I don’t want to guilt everyone in Belleville into watching but if the show gets cancelled, it’s their fault,” he joked.
