Following tonight’s live Results show, 10 dancers remain in the hunt to become Canada’s Favourite Dancer after GEISHA Chin (19), a Contemporary dancer from Toronto ON and JOEY Arrigo (19), a Contemporary dancer from Newmarket, ON were sent home. The Top 10 dancers have survived six vigorous weeks performing styles ranging from hip-hop to the quick step and house, to contemporary, theatre and rumba. Ranging in age from 19 to 29, the Top 10 represent Canada, with one dancer from New Brunswick, three dancers from Quebec and six dancers from Ontario. Along with the title of Canada’s Favourite Dancer, the winner takes home $100,000, and both the winner and runner-up will drive away with a brand new Chevrolet Cruze.
During last night’s live broadcast, host Leah Miller announced the bottom three couples who performed their solos for Canada – CHRISTIAN Millette (28), a Ballroom dancer from Montreal, QC and LINDSAY Leuschner (19), a Contemporary dancer from Stouffville, ON who performed a high-flying Samba routine; SHANE Simpson (24), a Jazz dancer from Thornhill, ON and YULIYA Zavadska (29), a Latin dancer from Toronto, ON who danced a fast-paced Jive routine; and GEISHA, and JOEY who performed an intricate Afro-Jazz routine. Following the reveal, each dancer had the opportunity to dance for their lives before the judges deliberated and decided that GEISHA and JOEY would be leaving the stage, just a dance step away from making the coveted Top 10.
Before the bottom three couples were announced, the Top 12 took to the stage to perform a Latin group number choreographed by SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA judge and choreographer Jean Marc Genereux. The Top 12 dancers performed a sinfully good ballroom-inspired routine incorporating ropes and blindfolds to “Dirty Dancer†by Enrique Iglesias featuring Usher and Lil Wayne.
The Top 10 will continue to face new and challenging choreography as they dance with new partners each week for Canada’s votes. After the votes are tallied following the performance show on Monday, August 22 at 8 p.m. ET, dancers will be eliminated on Tuesday, August 23 at 8 p.m. ET (go to ctv.ca to confirm local listings).
