TV Eh B Cs podcast 35: Matt MacLennan’s Smell of Hope

M2Matt MacLennan is a writer and producer who, over the past few years, has worked on some of Canada’s most popular homegrown shows including Rookie Blue, Played, Call Me Fitz, The Listener, Republic of Doyle, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Life with Derek, and Overruled.

He’s currently got two seasons under his belt of writing and being a supervising producer for CTV’s Motive which flips the whodunit on its head by starting each episode telling you whodunit.

We talk about his jobs producing, writing, a childhood of Dungeons & Dragons and his plans to milk artisanal goats in my conversation with Matt MacLennan.

TV Eh B Cs podcast 34: Punk and Disorderly with Bruce McCulloch

A member of the seminal Canadian sketch show The Kids in the Hall, Bruce McCulloch has written or performed several one-man shows including Two-Headed Roommate, Jazz Stenographers, Slightly Bigger Cities and most recently The Pink Dot Stories in San Francisco. Bruce has two spoken word/ comedy/ music CDs Shame-based Man and The Drunk Baby Project.
Bruce has written and/or directed several films including Dog Park, Superstar, Stealing Harvard, and Comeback Season. Bruce has also recently acted in episodes of Workaholics and the latest season of Arrested Development. His first book, “Let’s Start a Riot” was released last year.
He spends most of his time in L.A. where he writes and produces for network and cable television. He’s the creator of ABC’s Carpoolers. His latest project for City and CBC, Young Drunk Punk, is a show inspired by his own life that he both writes and stars in it.
We talk about all of this, and where Ferlinghetti may have puked, in my conversation with Bruce McCulloch.

TV eh B Cs podcast 12 – Ryan Belleville Beyond the Brick Wall

By 17 Ryan Belleville was performing comedy professionally, and was the youngest person to ever record their own CTV Comedy Now special. He is the winner of a Canadian Comedy Award and the Phil Hartman Award for his stand up.

Of his many TV appearances he has appeared 8 times at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal where he is a crowd favorite, as well as multiple appearances on CBC’s Halifax Comedy Festival, The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and CBC’s The Debaters. South of the border he has been seen on Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, CBS’s The Late Late Show, and MTV’s Busted.

A respected comedic actor, he was a series regular on FOX’s sitcom Life on a Stick and CW’s The LA Complex. He was the star and co-creater of the cult show Almost Heroes, now available on Hulu. He has starred in the feature films National Lampoons Going the Distance, Disney’s Stuck in the Suburbs, Step Dogs and the award winning family film Finn on the Fly.

Most recently he was the star of CTV’s sitcom Satisfaction and hosts one of iTunes top Comedy Podcasts in Canada, The Flying Bellevilles Podcast.

Doug Slater

Doug Slater has been Set Designer on Lost Girl, Orphan Black, and Flashpoint. He’s worked as a Set Designer or Art Director on The Listener and Nikita and on such films as Resident Evil: Retribution, Total Recall, The Thing, Devil, Death Race, Lars and the Real Girl, 16 Blocks, and Dawn of the Dead.

He’s currently working on the upcoming science-fiction series Dark Matter and talks about how The Brady Bunch led him to design the deck of a spaceship.

TV eh B Cs podcast – Eric Johnson the dark and stormy

Edmonton-born and raised Eric Johnson is most familiar to audiences for his roles in Global TV’s ROOKIE BLUE, CW’s SMALLVILLE and the SYFY series FLASH GORDON. With recent performances in both ORPHAN BLACK and CRIMINAL MINDS, Eric is currently starring alongside Clive Owen in Steven Soderbergh’s THE KNICK for HBO/CINEMAX as Dr. Everett Gallinger. The show is already picked up for a second season to commence shooting in early 2015.
