Everything about Call Me Fitz, eh?

Call Me Fitz premieres Sept 25; sneak peek online now

From a media release:

HBO Canada gets dirty as Jason Priestley returns for season two of the Gemini-winning comedy Call Me Fitz

He’s rude, he’s crude and he’s coming back to HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Astral’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada). Returning with back-to-back half-hour episodes, Call Me Fitz stars Jason Priestley as the insalubrious Richard “Fitz” Fitzpatrick, a handsome, substance-abusing used-car salesman with a conscience. Call Me Fitz (Season 2) premieres Sunday, September 25 at 8 and 8:30 p.m. ET/MT, and the following week moves into its regularly scheduled timeslot Sunday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET/MT.

Nominated for 16 Gemini Awards, Call Me Fitz recently took home seven trophies, the most of any comedy or drama series this year. Wins include: Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role or Guest Role in a Comedic Series (Ernie Grunwald); Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role (Tracy Dawson); Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role or Guest Role in a Comedic Series (Rachel Blanchard); Best Direction in a Comedy Program or Series; and Best Writing in a Comedy or Variety Program or Series.

The start of the second season finds Fitz incapacitated by a series of recurring nightmares in which he is naked and shackled to a wheel of death before a knife-throwing shadowy figure – who may or may not be the hot new office manager Dot Foxley. Ever the pragmatist, Larry believes Fitz is simply anxious about not being able to sell cars, a theory quickly discarded after a psychic tells Fitz the nightmare is actually a prophecy, and unless Fitz makes amends to the ‘person he’s wronged’, he is marked to die by the next Beaver Moon.

The ensemble cast includes Ernie Grunwald as Larry, Fitz’s so-called conscience, the last undamaged corner of Richards blackened, booze-soaked soul; Peter MacNeill as Ken Fitzpatrick, Fitz’ father and patriarch of Fitzpatrick Motors; Tracy Dawson as Meghan Fitzpatrick, Fitz’s shrewish younger sister and thorn in his side; Donavon Stinson as Josh Mctaggart, the Fitzpatrick Motors in-house auto repair and wildcard; and Brooke Nevin as Sonja Lester Fitzpatrick Motors’ receptionist and former fling of Fitz. Amy Sloan joins the cast as Dot Foxley, the new office manager who has an inexplicable hate on for Larry, a penchant for witchcraft and a miniature model of Fitzpatrick Motors (complete with Fitz and Larry voodoo dolls) hidden in her apartment.

The 13-episode second season of this made-in-Canada half-hour comedy series was created by Sheri Elwood and then developed by Amaze Film + Television and is produced by Amaze, Big Motion Pictures and Entertainment One, with the participation of The Movie Network and Movie Central. Executive Produced by Sheri Elwood, who is also the series Show Runner, the series is filmed in New Minas, Nova Scotia. The first season of Call Me Fitz premiered earlier this year on DirecTV in the U.S.

From Entertainment One, The complete first season of Call Me Fitz will be available on DVD September 27th and includes special bonus features including: The Genesis of Fitz, Casting of Fitz, Blooper reel, and a Season 2 sneak peek.

Big plans for sleazy Fitz

From Andrea Nemetz of the Chronicle Herald:

  • Creator has big plans for sleazy title character
Call Me Fitz “is a really refreshing, ballsy comedy. Because it’s on HBO Canada, you can do a lot of things you couldn’t do on a traditional network — the writers go balls out to be funny and politically incorrect. They take a swipe at everyone across the board and that attitude trickles down to me as a director and the cast,” says Smith, whose credits include multiple episodes of Skins, Paradise Falls, Godiva’s and This Is Wonderland. TV, eh?’s Gemini predictions

header26v8

In the latest podcast, Anthony and Diane debate who will win and who they want to win on tonight’s Gemini telecast. Here’s a summary of our predictions:

Best Comedy
Nominees:
22 Minutes, Call Me Fitz, Good Dog, Halifax Comedy Fest 2010, Living in Your Car, Rick Mercer Report
Will Win: Diane predicts Call Me Fitz, and Anthony agrees. Shocking!
Want to Win: Diane really, really wants Call Me Fitz to win, and Anthony reluctantly does too because it’s the only show where he watched a full season.

Best Drama
Nominees:
The Borgias, Endgame, Flashpoint, Skins, The Tudors
Will Win: “These are apparently Canadian, are they?” says Anthony. “This list makes me depressed about the state of Canadian television,” says Diane. She thinks The Borgias will win and he agrees.
Want to Win: Diane says “anything but a minority coproduction” before picking Endgame over Flashpoint (the only two truly Canadian shows in the bunch) just for the novelty factor. Anthony says “My honest answer: I don’t care.” He chooses Endgame in case a win would help it stick around and another actual Canadian drama would remain on the air.

Best Actor in a Comedy
Nominees:
Peter Keleghan of 18 to Life, Chris Leavins of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Jason Priestley of Call Me Fitz, John Ralston of Living in Your Car
Will Win: Diane says “it’s gotta be Jason Priestley” and Anthony thinks he’ll win too.
Want to Win: Diane wants Jason Priestley … to WIN that is … while Anthony is picking Chris Leavins because he wants a winner from Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, just for the show title.

Best Actor in a Drama
Nominees:
Enrico Colantoni of Flashpoint, Hugh Dillon of Durham County, Callum Keith Rennie of Shattered, Michael Riley of Being Erica, Sam Witwer of Being Human
Will Win: Diane predicts Enrico Colantoni for the win and Anthony can see that happening. Which I guess is a decision.
Want to Win: Diane wants Callum Keith Rennie because he’s Callum Keith Rennie. Anthony wants him to win, too.

Best Actress in a Comedy
Nominees:
Angela Asher of 18 to Life, Tracy Dawson of Call Me Fitz, Grace Lynn Kung of InSecurity, Brooke Nevin of Call Me Fitz
Will Win: Diane picks Tracy Dawson and Anthony agrees.
Want to Win: Diane goes for Tracy Dawson here too. Anthony goes with Brooke Nevin to split the Call Me Fitz decision.

Best Actress in a Drama
Nominees:
Erin Karpluk of Being Erica, Carmen Moore of Blackstone, Krystin Pellerin of Republic of Doyle, Lauren Lee Smith of The Listener, Camille Sullivan of Shattered, Michelle Thrush of Blackstone
Will Win: Diane and Anthony say Erin Karpluk will win.
Want to Win: Diane wants Camille Sullivan to win. Anthony says “it would be awesome if someone from Blackstone won,” thinking it would be great to see a winner from APTN.
