Giddy up! CBC has made it official: Heartland has been renewed for Season 11. Star Amber Marshall made the announcement Tuesday morning in a video on the show’s official Facebook page.

“I wanted to thank you all for watching Season 10 of Heartland,” she says. “And I am so excited to tell you that Season 11 will be starting on CBC this fall.” The news comes just days in advance of the season finale, where it’s expected that Amy Fleming and Ty Borden will welcome the birth of their first child.

Here’s the episode synopsis for Sunday’s finale, “Great Expectations.”

Amy, Ty and the entire Heartland family are thrilled to welcome a new member into the fold. Meanwhile, the ghost horse returns and Amy disagrees with Georgie’s plan to capture and gentle him. Then, Lou changes her mind about a business deal but not before Mitch makes a surprising choice. And hoping to impress Cass’s parents, Caleb asks a reluctant Tim for a full-time job.

Heartland fans have been begging Ty to return to Canada for weeks. Finally, he does, but no one is celebrating. Wracked with sickness, Ty has been hospitalized and totally out of it. With a baby on the way, will Ty survive to see his child born, or will he die in front of Amy?

Ty isn’t the only one having a hard time
Yes, Ty is hooked up to tubes and unresponsive, but others are suffering in their own way this week. A major situation hits Lou out of nowhere, putting her future in jeopardy as well. And, just to make things super-interesting/awkward, Peter visits.

We find out what’s been ailing Ty
Turns out four months in the Gobi desert is full of dangers, the least of which are poachers. A Calgary doctor gives the family her prognosis … and not everyone is happy with her news. That leads to a very, very dramatic scene in the hospital between two major characters that could affect their relationship going forward. Meanwhile, Ty has been pumped full of drugs, leading to some very interesting visions … and a special guest star.

We were left with a couple of serious questions following last week’s episode of Heartland. What would Georgie say to Adam? Was Ghost really a ghost? And, most importantly, would Ty be OK? Sunday’s new episode, “A Long Shot,” written by Pamela Pinch and directed by Canadian Screen Award winner Eleanore Lindo, answers two of three queries … and adds plenty of drama when it comes to Jack.

So, how’s Ty?
Amy was super-worried about her husband last Sunday and was losing sleep over it. She had a good reason: those dizzy spells haven’t stopped and Bob is concerned there is something really wrong with his friend. Has anyone Googled, “Diseases you can suffer from in Mongolia”? Malaria, cholera, typhoid fever, viral hepatitis and hemorrhagic fever all pop up. That’s not good.

Tim finds out about, you know
A simple conversation between Mitch and Jack turns dramatic when Tim overhears Lou’s name brought up. Tim’s always been a guy to react without thinking and Sunday is no different. As an aside, Kevin McGarry appears in Sunday’s episode of Saving Hope, showing a very different side of him than we see on Heartland.

Is Trouble too much … trouble?
A dangerous situation develops at Heartland, and Georgie calls on Trouble to come through. But is the horse too skittish to be relied on when lives are at stake?

Kari Matchett guest stars
It’s always great to see Kari Matchett on television, and she certainly makes an impact on Heartland. Her character, Claire Wallace, pays a visit with a Canadian horse she wants Amy to look at. A horse isn’t the only reason for her visit; she has some news that shakes Jack up. I’ve written this before and it still stands: Shaun Johnston doesn’t get a ton of airtime—you simply can’t on a show with such a large cast—but he makes the most of that time when he does. He’s simply fantastic in this episode.

Well, I certainly didn’t see the breakup between Georgie and Adam coming at the end of last week’s episode, did you? I mean, I knew he was the jealous type, but I never suspected she’d decide to walk away from the relationship. It will be interesting to see, as this season winds down, if that will stick or they’ll reunite. Adam will have a lot of growing up to do if that’s going to happen.

Meanwhile, heading into Sunday’s episode, “Written in the Stars,” we’re scratching our heads over why Mallory really came back to Canada. Jake riding up in the final moments added a twist we weren’t expecting. Here’s what CBC says about Sunday’s storylines written by Mark Haroun:

Mallory explains
The episode begins with Mallory and Jake discussing the circumstances surrounding their experiences overseas. It’s intense and touching, and made even more so by some stellar camera work. The duo make a surprising decision about next steps.

Scott needs a haircut
That’s not part of the story, just an observation. No, Scott’s got a cutting horse named Tab that needs tending to and naturally calls on Amy for help … but it’s Georgie who solves a problem.

A special dinner
There have been plenty of folks given a spot at Heartland’s dinner table, and new faces are added on Sunday. Some of my favourite scenes are filmed around that table and this is particularly noteworthy.
