  • Citytv turns to homegrown U.S.-style multi-cam comedy for 2013 lineup
    “Canada seems to have a great history … of children’s programming and sketch comedy and dramas. But the sitcoms by-and-large either feel too broad maybe, for U.S. audiences, or too sketchy. Or fall somewhere in between a dramedy and a comedy. None of which by the way is bad — it’s not a judgment — it’s just, if they wanted us to go on after ‘Scrubs,’ it didn’t (work).” Read more.

    Looking for what to watch this New Year’s Eve? Taped in Toronto earlier this month, the 20th annual Air Farce New Year’s Eve special (8 p.m. ET, CBC) goes Stephen Harper Style. A slimmed-down Craig Lauzon goes Gangnan as Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a “Farce Films” sketch. The special features several guest stars, including Team Canada goal scorer Paul Henderson, plus George Stroumbuolopoulos, Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries) and Olympic trampoline champion Rosie MacLennan.
