Tiga Talk! entertains kids while teaching both Aboriginal and English language skills during the preschool years – an integral stage in development. By watching the series, children can learn how to make language sounds more easily, and have fun doing it! The addition of an interactive website and iPhone application provide even greater learning opportunities, offering games, crafts and videos that give children and their families the chance to explore and learn together.

ABOUT TIGA TALK!

With Aboriginal languages being lost across Canada, Tiga Talk! was created to help teach language skills to preschoolers, while building confidence and instilling imagination in young minds. Targeted at all children (Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal) aged 3-6, Tiga Talk! is a gentle, entertaining series that has fun exploring languages and culture. It combines live action with a magic puppet world, and features music and imaginary play.

Tiga Talk! is centered around three stuffed toys – Tiga the wolf cub, Gertie the gopher, and Gavin the goose – who live with human friends Jodie and Jason, their father, and Kokum (“grandmother” in Cree). Jodie and Jason have a secret. When there aren’t any adults around, their stuffed toys come alive as talking puppets. Through their interactions and adventures, the puppets and kids learn about traditional practices and languages of various Aboriginal cultures in imaginative ways.

Tiga Talk! not only captivates and entertains its preschool audience, but also creates an ear for Aboriginal language, and encourages an excitement for learning about traditions and culture during those very important early years.

THE NEW SEASON

Season 3 of Tiga Talk! builds upon the strengths of the first two seasons, with exciting new additions that previous viewers will be pleased to discover, and first-time audiences will enjoy:

New Family – Season 3 welcomes Jason and Jodie’s dad, a character not seen in the first two seasons. Dad takes the kids on various field trips, from visiting a music recording studio, to a petting zoo, to the museum.

New Friends – In addition to the puppets from Season 1 and 2, Jason and Jodie now have four new friends to play with: Jack, Alice, Kyle and Tessa. These friends come over to visit, play games, and do various activities in the backyard.

New Sets – The majority of the show used to take place in Jodie and Jason’s bedroom at Kokum’s place, and at Tiga and Gertie’s indoor dens. In Season 3, the bedroom has been replaced with a larger set in Kokum’s backyard that includes a pond for Gavin, an underground tunnel for Gertie, and an outdoor den for Tiga.

New Segments – Two new segments are being introduced in Season 3: ‘Get Moving’, a segment that allows viewers to follow along to exercises with a song performed by the puppets; and ‘Things We Love to Do’, which shows kids doing different kinds of fun activities that fit with the theme of each episode.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Tiga Talk! was developed by an award-winning children’s television producer, an early childhood educator and a speech pathologist. Irene Green is producer and writer for the series, and also plays the role of ‘Kokum’. Singer/songwriter/actor Art Napoleon plays ‘Dad’, eight-year-old Kate-La Faith Hanuse returns as ‘Jodie’, and seven-year-old Gabriel Paul once again takes on the role of ‘Jason’.

CANADA’S PRIMETIME ANIMATED SERIES “BY THE RAPIDS” PLUNGES INTO SEASON THREE WITH STAR-STUDDED TALENT AND UN-RESERVED HUMOUR

The mayhem rolls on in season three of “BY THE RAPIDS” (7 x 30′), a primetime-animated comedy on APTN that takes a satirical look at what happens when a thoroughly urban family relocates from Toronto to the rural Aboriginal community where the successful lawyer parents were raised. “By The Rapids” highlights Aboriginal culture while touching on real issues – with a helping of pop-culture references and side-splitting one-liners grown-ups will love. “Kids in the Hall” alum Scott Thompson, actor and medical doctor Evan Adams, and Canadian comedian Adam Wilson make guest appearances this season. Rising Canadian film star Tiio Horn – who appeared in three films at the 2009 Toronto Int. Film Festival and has an upcoming feature film alongside Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto in the works – returns as the voices of Bev, Karen and Hazel Littlehorn. “By The Rapids” season three airs Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. ET/MT beginning Jan. 6 on APTN. The series is produced by Big Soul Productions Inc.

“With season three set to air and season four in pre-production already, we can safely say “By The Rapids” has found its following,” says Joseph Lazare, the 26-year-old series creator, writer and director. “While the show appeals to Aboriginal Peoples, it also appeals to teens and adults across the nation because of its Canadian-esque humour and pop-culture references.”

In the season premiere airing Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. ET/MT Cory, yearning for city life, high-tails it back to Toronto and Grandma Hazel and uncle Regis set off to the big city to bring him back home. Things get a little sidetracked when Regis is arrested as a terrorist suspect and then tries to crash a movie premiere. Meanwhile, Grandma Hazel is abducted by a Leafs-worshipping cult.

Other highlights from “By The Rapids” season three include the Littlehorns – mom Bev, dad Wayne and tech-savvy teen Cory – and the gang getting into lots of mischief from Grandma Hazel’s ‘medicinal’ herbal tea to Wayne’s new pastime as a cross-dressing slot jockey at the Half Casino. And be prepared to pow-wow on the wild side with a special episode of “By The Rapids’” own superhero show – The Mighty Five Nations!

With host and series writer Andrew Younghusband as our guide, eight disastrous drivers – each nominated by a friend, family member or colleague during a national search – were put through their paces in a controlled driving environment and evaluated by a panel of driving experts. At Driver Rehab, they undertook a series of driving challenges designed to improve their skills and knowledge. • Lance, from Ottawa, ON, has only been driving since February 2010, after getting busted for driving uninsured and without a licence at age 16. Lance saved, bought a car and is ready to enjoy the freedom of the open road – except that he’s so nervous and suffers near-panic attacks on Ottawa city streets. He also drives a standard car… but really shouldn’t.
• Dale, from St. Catharines, ON, is clueless about the rules of the road. This charming granny wants to learn and improve, but no one is brave enough to get in the car with her. She’s spent $50,000 on replacing and fixing cars she’s damaged. She even hit a police car while he was writing her a ticket.
• Brad, from Calgary, AB, has racked up so many accidents and tickets that his wife and father-in-law have banned him from driving. But a change in family circumstances is forcing Brad back on the road – whether we’re ready for him or not.
