Canadian Original Yukon Gold returns Wednesday Feb. 17 to History

From a media release:

This February, HISTORY’s fan-favourite Canadian docu-series Yukon Gold returns for a fortune-seeking fourth season where tempers are tested, time is ticking and the pressure to strike gold runs high. These miners have families to support and bills to pay, but the prospect of riches outweighs the risks. Miners returning with gold fever this season include “Big Al” McGregor as well as Karl Knutson, Ken Foy, Guillaume Brodeur, couple Nika Guilbault and Chris St. Jean, and Bernie Kreft. Produced by Canadian production company Paperny Entertainment in association with Shaw Media, the new, 11-epsiode season of Yukon Gold premieres Wednesday, February 17th at 10pm ET/PT on HISTORY.

This season, all five mining camps are busier than ever. Some miners are juggling multiple roles in their personal and professional lives while others are tasked with opening up new mines. But all of them are on the hunt for gold. Big Al faced difficult health issues this past year, leaving him in a wheelchair, but his determination brought him back to the Yukon. With the help of his right-hand man, Hiro, he hopes to make a triumphant return and finally hit the jackpot this season. Chris and Nika return to Stowe Creek, now as a new family of five, with the addition of their six-month-old twins. With greater responsibilities to balance, Chris is under more stress to support their family and Nika must juggle her roles as both miner and mother.

Business partners Ken and Guillaume head to Atlin, B.C. hoping to hit it big after years of coming up short in the Yukon. As Ken struggles with endless permit delays and preparing to become a first-time father, the pressure falls on Guillaume to get the mine up and running. Second-generation miner Karl is taking a big step this season. Buying into the mine with his parents, he’s now a gold miner and business owner with more responsibility and a hefty 1000-ounce gold goal. Bernie tries his luck at a new site with sons Jarrett and Justin, but sometimes it’s hard to balance being both boss and father.

Whether it’s taking a tour of the Russian mansion, getting an even closer look at the challenges of log home building, or getting an all-access pass to Joel’s Tough Mudder race, these bonus scenes offer an extended look at life as a Timber King.

Beginning March 13th, Timber Kings: Under the Hard Hat takes over the 10pm Sunday spot with back-to-back episodes. From Etan Vlessing of The Hollywood Reporter:

‘House’ Creator David Shore Explains Why TV Writing Is a “Magic Trick”
That illusion appeals to Shore, who sees TV writing as its own “magic trick” to distract and hold audiences. “You go ‘look here, look here.’ And that’s your ‘A story.’ That has to be interesting. But really the sleight of hand comes from sliding in all this character stuff. This is what the show is about,” he explained. Continue reading.

Chopped Canada launches Season 3 with Chopped Canada Teen Tournament

From a media release:

Food Network Canada today announced premiere dates for season three of its hit, high-stakes culinary competition series, Chopped Canada. Season three kicks off with its new host, Brad Smith, and the world premiere of Chopped Canada Teen Tournament  (5×60) on Saturday, November 28 at 9 pm ET/PT. Chopped Canada’s third season continues with all-new regular episodes premiering January 9 at 9pm ET/PT.

Chopped Canada Teen Tournament  pits 16 of Canada’s best teen chefs against each other, battling it out for a chance to win $20,000 in this five-part special. In each episode, four young chefs face the clock – and each other – putting their skill and ingenuity to the test in an attempt to turn baskets of mystery ingredients into an extraordinary three-course meal. Competitors between the ages of 13 to17 from across Canada square off against each other, with the winner of each episode advancing to the finale. Course by course, the judges decide which teen chef Chopped Canada host Brad Smith will “chop” from the competition until only one remains. The last competitor standing collects the grand prize and will be crowned the first-ever Chopped Canada Teen Grand Champion. Competitor assets available at www.ShawMedia.ca/Media.

This season, celebrity chef, author, and television personality Mark McEwan joins Lynn Crawford, John Higgins, Antonio Park, Anne Yarymowich, Eden Grinshpan, Massimo Capra, Michael Smith, Susur Lee, and Roger Mooking at the rotating judges’ table, critiquing each meal and deciding which Chopped Canada contestants will be chopped.

CHOPPED CANADA TEEN TOURNAMENT PART I: Dukkah-ing It Out (1×60)
Four young chefs pull out all the stops to impress the judges in the first ever Chopped Canada Teen Tournament as they take on the sous vide, a CO2 canister and the anti-griddle.  Tensions run high as a kitchen mishap jeopardizes one teen’s chance of making it to the finale.

CHOPPED CANADA TEEN TOURNAMENT PART II: Lunchbox Letdown (1×60)
It’s back to school in the second competition of the Teen Tournament with four teen chefs testing the classic snack favorite, “Ants on a Log”, in the appetizer round. Things quickly heat up and snap, crackle, and burn in the entrée round.

Season three of Chopped Canada continues with all-new, edge-of-your seat episodes on January 9 at 9PM ET/PT.
