From a media release:

MYSTERY INGREDIENTS. CELEBRITY JUDGES. NO THYME.

  • Highly Anticipated Chopped Canada to Debut Thursday, January 2 at 10pm ET/PT on Food Network Canada

It’s chop or be chopped in the brand new, high-stakes, food competition series Chopped Canada. Food Network Canada and Paperny Entertainment today revealed the list of 52 Canadian competitors who will cook-off in the first half of Chopped Canada’s inaugural season. Premiering on Thursday, January 2 at 10pm ET/PT, Chopped Canada is hosted by Toronto-native Dean McDermott (Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off season two winner) and features a rotating panel of all-star judges including Lynn Crawford (Pitchin’ In), Chuck Hughes (Chuck’s Day Off), Michael Smith (Chef Michael’s Kitchen), Susur Lee (Top Chef Masters), Roger Mooking (Heat Seekers), Vikram Vij (Top Chef Canada seasons 1 and 2), John Higgins (George Brown College), and Anne Yarymowich (formerly FRANK Restaurant).

Chopped Canada is the first Canadian edition of the hugely popular Food Network U.S. series Chopped. After an extensive cross-Canada search, the brand new edition shines a spotlight on this country’s wealth of culinary talent from Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Newfoundland and North West Territories. For a full list of competitors, including biographical information, please visit choppedcanada.ca.

Each episode in this cut-throat series pits four chefs against the clock – and each other – for a chance to win $10,000. Cooking off in head-to-head challenges before the panel of expert judges, the competitors put their skill and ingenuity to the test in an attempt to turn a basket of mystery ingredients into an extraordinary three-course meal within a limited amount of time. Course by course, the judges chop the chefs from the competition until only one remains.

This season’s competitors will face off in the Chopped Canada kitchen outfitted by KitchenAid®, the official appliance sponsor of Chopped Canada. Chopped Canada premieres January 2, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT exclusively on Food Network Canada. Recap: Republic of Murdoch

From Samantha Sobolewski of TV Guide Canada:

A Doyle-ful ‘Murdoch Mysteries’
Could there be anything more heartwarming than an inter-CBC crossover between the beloved families of Murdoch Mysteries and Republic of Doyle? Perhaps a Venti-sized hot chocolate with extra whip. But I doubt even that could be sweeter than Monday’s action-packed episode of Murdoch Mysteries featuring the one and only Allan Hawco. Continue reading.

Recap: Call Me Fitz

From Emily Gagne of TV Guide Canada:

‘Call Me Fitz’: Giving her the business
Rick Fitzpatrick, bonafide business man? More like boning business, man! While there was a point in Monday’s latest Call Me Fitz episode (“Brotherly Love”) when Fitz appeared to be sobering up to the idea of, well, sobering up and getting serious about working for bio dad Pat, the rest of the episode really went to show that he’s still the same old dirty Fitzy we love, with minimal care for anyone but himself. Really the only reason why he seemed to accept the vice-president cards Pat gave him at the end of the episode is because he wants to outdo sister Paula after doing her again (in front of a focus group, no less). Recaps: Cracked season finale

From Greg David of TV Guide Canada:

‘Cracked’: The devil in the details
Cracked has gone to many dark places this season. A trucker targeting Native Canadian women. A damaged man keeping a girl in his basement as a plaything. A child soldier seeking revenge on the man who commanded him in Africa. Like I said, dark stuff. Continue reading.

From Christopher White of Unapologetic Canadian:

Episode Recap: Cracked Season 2 Finale
I remember interning at the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office and unwinding at the end of the day with my fellow students guffawing at CSI: Miami. Every incomprehensibly lit lab scene, every bizarre science gadget, every patented Caruso pun would set off a chorus of “That’s not what it’s like in real life!”. After watching my first episode of Cracked, I understand the value of those creative liberties. A police procedural where people just sit around talking and looking at computer screens – while factually accurate – isn’t as exciting to watch. Continue reading.
