Photo gallery: Dark Matter Season 2 images unveiled

The Raza crew is ready to take flight, and we’re sharing some gorgeous gallery pics of the cast ahead of Dark Matter‘s Season 2 debut Friday, July 1, at 10 p.m. ET on Space.

Here’s what the network says will happen in the premiere episode:

“In ‘Welcome To Your New Home,’ the crew of the Raza have been betrayed by one of their own, with a motivation that questions everyone’s loyalties. The rest of the crew find themselves incarcerated in the notorious Hyperion-8 Detention Facility where they must deal with dangerous fellow inmates a corrupt Warden, and corporate agenda that threatens their lives.”

As previously announced, joining the series this season is Melanie Liburd as Nyx, an ex-con with killer instincts; Shaun Sipos as a world-class surgeon with a dark past; and Franka Potente, who guest-stars as Commander Shaddock, a cool, calculated force of nature who’s hell-bent on making things difficult for the Raza crew.

Video: First-look at Killjoys and Dark Matter Season 2

From a media release:

Space unveiled earlier today a First-Look promo from Season 2 of its highest-rated Original series KILLJOYS. The action-packed spot sees the return of the kick-ass bounty hunter trio Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), Johnny (Aaron Ashmore), and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane).

As previously announced, Season 2 of KILLJOYS premieres Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m. ET on Space.

In the Season 2 premiere of KILLJOYS, “Dutch And The Real Girl” (Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m. ET on Space) after failing to rescue D’avin from Arkyn, Dutch and Johnny head to Eulogy, an outlaw-only barter town, in the hopes of stealing a mysterious, high tech shield from the infamous Connaver gang.

“I don’t know. It’s like why are the numbers so horrible for female showrunners? Is it just that we haven’t been represented so people coming into the industry don’t expect that that’s something they would be able to do. Like Stephanie [Morgenstern] said in her interview, without representation there’s no ‘Well I’m going to do that. I’m going to be like her,’ because there was no “her” to be like. Now it’s changing and now you’ve got Stephanie Morgenstern (X Company) and other amazing women showrunning. It’s happening, but it’s still a small number. I think it will become more and more prevalent to see women in positions of power because we are actually making the change that needed to be made and highlighting it.” Continue reading.

“One of the nice things about the industry here [in Canada] that will continue to breakdown that systematic issue, is having programs at the broadcaster levels, and the government agencies where there are a lot of initiatives to make sure we’ve got diversity on and off screen. I think that’s really helpful and it’s amazing to me to live in a country where we do see that. I would say that our industry is a lot more accepting than other industries out there–like say finance for example–just from speaking with my peers that work in other industries.” Continue reading.

Space’s Killjoys and Dark Matter returning for Season 2

There will be more adventures in The Quad. Space announced Tuesday that Season 2 of Killjoys is a go, with production starting in Toronto this winter.

“We are proud that Killjoys has connected so well with viewers to become a ratings and critical success,” David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, co-presidents of Temple Street Productions and executive producers said in a press release. “We are thrilled to partner with Space again for a second season and look forward to building on this unique world for our stellar cast to continue the captivating journey.”

We had a feeling this news was coming. After all, how awkward would it be to have Killjoys and Dark Matter panels at Fan Expo if they had been cancelled?

The news comes just over a week following Killjoys’ cliffhanger Season 1 finale, which left D’Avin (Luke Macfarlane) in the clutches of Khlyen (Rob Stewart) in Red 17 and Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and Johnny (Aaron Ashmore) vowing to find him. The trio, ensconced in their faithful ship Lucy (voiced by Tamsen McDonough), have been travelling around The Quad—a planet called Qresh and its three moons, Westerley, Arkyn and Leith—cracking skulls and collecting bounty.

Debuting in June, Killjoys snagged a season finale audience of over 560,000 viewers for Space and is the network’s most-watched original series of all time. Killjoys and fellow Friday night sci-fi series Dark Matter have made Space the No. 1 specialty network for Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

Killjoys was created by Michelle Lovretta (Lost Girl) who serves as executive producer and showrunner; Season 1’s writer and consulting producer was Jeremy Boxen with writers Emily Andras, Adam Barken and Aaron Martin on board.

Created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, Dark Matter had a cliffhanger of its own, revealing Five (Jodelle Ferland) had wiped everyone’s memories and that Six (Roger Cross) had betrayed his team. Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr. and Zoie Palmer made up the rest of Dark Matter‘s key cast.
