From Jim Halterman of The Futon Critic:
- Interview: “Being Erica” Creator Jana Sinyor
“I started to think about people being hard on themselves and blaming themselves for where they were and having a lot of regrets so it kind of evolved from there. I know in real therapy people go back into their past and relive it and in this show Dr. Tom is literally taking her back.” Read more.

From Rob Salem of the Toronto Star:
- America’s flirting with Being Erica
“Of the many odd and unexpected places Erin Karpluk has time-travelled on her hit CBC series, Being Erica, this could be the oddest and most unexpected of all. Karpluk, her Erica co-star Michael Riley and writer/producer Jana Sinyor have been brought here, to American television’s biannual TV critic’s preview, in response to the warm and enthusiastic reception the proudly Toronto-set series has received south of the border, where it airs on the Disney-owned cable channel SoapNet.” Read more.

From Alex Strachan of Canwest News Service:
- Erin Karpluk having a ‘blast’ Being Erica
“I’ve only been here for 24 hours, and so I haven’t had a chance to get that much feedback,” Karpluk said, looking visibly relaxed. “But the little I have, it’s been the same. The feedback is that the premise is very relatable. Regardless of your age, your race, your gender, wherever you’re at, I think that everyone can identify with (revisiting) the past, and that makes it universal in a way. So, while it is Canadian, it’s doing well internationally. I think it’s been picked up in something like 30 countries abroad. So, I’m blown away. I had no idea that it would be like this when we did the pilot.” Read more.

From Cassandra Szklarski of the Canadian Press:
- Variety, cable, single-camera sitcoms mark decade of flux and creative risks
“TV rediscovered variety, premium cable transformed the serial drama, and sitcoms overtly broke the fourth wall in the 2000s as the small screen shifted into new territory in a bid to keep eyeballs glued to the tube. Meanwhile, audiences splintered as they embraced an increasing number of specialty and pay channels, PVR viewing and on-demand entertainment, raising the bar for all shows seeking viewer loyalty.” Read more.

From Bill Brioux at TV Feeds My Family:
- Being Erica Goes Through the Green Door
“The ending was a little too pat, leaving this series at a point where anything could happen next. Too much of anything, actually; there was no hook left to tease you where it might all lead. You could hand this series off to a whole other room full of writers at this point, or make it a half hour, or put a bow on it and thank the half million who tune in faithfully each week with promises of a season two DVD set.” Read more.

From Myles McNutt of Cultural Learnings:
- Season Finale: Being Erica – “The Importance of Being Erica”
“The Importance of Being Erica is a strong finale that wants to pretend that the show figured all of this out, and that the season worked in a way that led to Erica’s emotional and career realizations. That’s stretching too far, but it’s another sign that even in its occasional problems there is a very good show that occasionally comes to the surface here (and that, if the show learned its lessons, could dominate in the third season).” Read more.

From Mike Morrison of Mike’s Bloggity Blog:
- Preview: Being Erica Season Finale!
“Tuesday night marks an important night in Canadian television, after eleven strong episodes, CBC’s Being Erica ends it second season. It’s important because, the cult-hit still has not been renewed for a third season, so there is a chance that this could very well be the series finale for the little show that could!” Read more.

From John Doyle of the Globe and Mail:
- The best of the best of Canadian TV
“Being Erica (CBC, 9 p.m.) is very interesting tonight. Erica faces serious challenges. That book she has been working on is published and the consensus is that it stinks. There is an amusing scene in which Erica (Erin Karpluk, giving it her all, as ever) goes to confront the top literary critic in Toronna about his negative review.” Read more.
