Prodigy Pictures and Shaw Media Announce Start of Production on Season 2 of Supernatural Canadian Drama Series, Lost Girl

Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media, announced today that the supernatural Canadian drama, Lost Girl, has started production on Season Two this week in Toronto. Thirteen one-hour episodes will be filmed at a west end Toronto soundstage and on location in and around the city until September 22. Season two is expected to premiere on Showcase this fall.

Anna Silk (Being Erica, Billable Hours) reprises her role as “Bo”, the tough yet loveable Succubus who survives by feeding off sexual energy. Kris Holden-Ried (Ben Hur, The Tudors, Underworld 4) returns as “Dyson”, the shape-shifting Fae, homicide detective, and Bo’s love interest. Other popular returning cast members include Bo’s human confidante and street-smart survivor, “Kenzi” (Ksenia Solo: Life Unexpected; Black Swan); “Lauren” (Zoie Palmer: The Guard, Instant Star, XIII), a human doctor who competes for Bo’s heart; “Trick” (Rick Howland: Billable Hours, Murdoch Mysteries), the mysterious owner and bartender at The Dal Riata tavern, with a secretive past that is yet to be unlocked; “Hale” (K.C. Collins: Owning Mahowny, Doomstown), a handsome male “Siren” who is the eternal bachelor, ultimate wingman and Dyson’s partner on the force.

Joining the Lost Girl cast this season is Vincent Walsh (Republic of Doyle, Saving Private Ryan) in a recurring role. Notable guest stars include Emmanuelle Vaugier (Two and a Half Men, Covert Affairs, Human Target) who returns as “The Morrigan”, the leader of the Dark Fae and Conrad Coates (Covert Affairs, Tron) who guest stars in episode two.

Season one introduced viewers to Bo, a drifter who learns she is a succubus, a creature from the world of Fae, who live among humans. Bo refuses to choose an allegiance to either the Dark or Light Fae clans. Her independence proves problematic for both sides, threatening to topple an age-old system, as she embarks on a personal mission to unlock the secrets of her origin.

Season two will challenge Bo’s resolve to stay free and force her to question her own morals and beliefs. While Bo grows stronger and learns more about who she really is, relationships will be tested and passions will ignite, but answers will not come easily. Through it all, Bo will remain true to herself and loyal to those she trusts as she continues to forge a path of her own in a dangerous world.

Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase. Executive Producers are Jay Firestone, Plato Fountidakis, and Paul Rapovski. Co-Executive Producers are Michelle Lovretta, Jeremy Boxen and Brad Markowitz. Vanessa Piazza is Associate Producer and Wanda Chaffey is Producer.

Lost Girl premiered on Showcase in September 2010 with record-breaking audience numbers and continued to draw viewers in each week. During its run in Fall 2010, the series ranked number one on the channel for adults 25-54 and was the top scripted series across all specialty channels.

The Firm commissioned by Global for 2012

From a media release:

Already a bestselling novel and a box office smash hit, John Grisham’s The Firm has now been commissioned by Global, NBC Universal and Entertainment One for an original 22-episode x 60-minute series. The Firm will premiere midseason 2012 in tandem on Global and NBC as part of the networks’ fall TV seasons.

Executive produced by Lukas Reiter (Law & Order, Boston Legal, The Practice) and John Grisham, The Firm continues the story of Mitchell Y. McDeere and his family, 10 years after the events of the popular film and novel.

As a young associate, Mitchell Y. McDeere brought down Bendini, Lambert & Locke, a prestigious Memphis law firm operating as a front for the Chicago Mob. His life was never the same. After a difficult 10 years, which included a stay in the Federal Witness Protection Program, Mitch and his family emerge from isolation determined to reclaim their lives and their future – only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere.

Lukas Reiter serves as the series show runner; Canadian Alyson Feltes (The Associates, Shattered) joins Peter Noah, David Feige, William Rothko, Vincent Angell and Jonathan Shapiro as part of the series’ writing team.

The Firm is produced by Entertainment One in association with Sony Pictures Television and Paramount Pictures.

The Firm will be shot on location in Toronto. More details to be released in the coming weeks.

TV, eh? podcast episode 42 – God Created Aliens and Aliens Created Dinosaurs

In a Very Special Episode, Anthony and Diane meet for the first time in person and record the podcast on the Vancouver seawall, where an informative (possibly drunk) passer-by provided our title.

Anthony has a great interview with Martin Wood, Executive Producer of Sanctuary, about the web-to-TV model among other things.

IMG 3570But first, we talk about the big news that Hiccups and Dan For Mayor finally have return dates: May 30 and June respectively. Plus CTV’s summer schedule includes Flashpoint, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, and the mother network airing of The Borgias, and Almost Heroes and Single White Spenny are coming to Showcase on June 5.

While being distracted by floatplanes and pretty mountains, we discuss how social media is going to save live TV (or not), how Canada watches a surprising amount of online video, and that Crackle, like Netflix in the US, is getting into the original scripted series business.
