Killjoys set visit: What we learned about season 2
The Syfy and Space Channel thriller Killjoys gets set to return to the Quad for a second season on Friday, July 1. The first season left us with a dramatic cliffhanger as D’avin (Luke MacFarlane) was separated from Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen) and Johnny (Aaron Ashmore). In Season 2 the trio will be working hard to uncover the secret agenda of Dutch’s duplicitous and mysterious childhood mentor, Khlyen (Rob Stewart).  Continue reading.
Space unveiled earlier today a First-Look promo from Season 2 of its highest-rated Original series KILLJOYS. The action-packed spot sees the return of the kick-ass bounty hunter trio Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), Johnny (Aaron Ashmore), and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane).
As previously announced, Season 2 of KILLJOYS premieres Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m. ET on Space.

Women behind Canadian TV: Amanda Tapping
“I don’t know. It’s like why are the numbers so horrible for female showrunners? Is it just that we haven’t been represented so people coming into the industry don’t expect that that’s something they would be able to do. Like Stephanie [Morgenstern] said in her interview, without representation there’s no ‘Well I’m going to do that. I’m going to be like her,’ because there was no “her†to be like. Now it’s changing and now you’ve got Stephanie Morgenstern (X Company) and other amazing women showrunning. It’s happening, but it’s still a small number. I think it will become more and more prevalent to see women in positions of power because we are actually making the change that needed to be made and highlighting it.” Continue reading.

“One of the nice things about the industry here [in Canada] that will continue to breakdown that systematic issue, is having programs at the broadcaster levels, and the government agencies where there are a lot of initiatives to make sure we’ve got diversity on and off screen. I think that’s really helpful and it’s amazing to me to live in a country where we do see that. I would say that our industry is a lot more accepting than other industries out there–like say finance for example–just from speaking with my peers that work in other industries.” Continue reading.
Fans of Canadian television shows certainly are a passionate lot, and they’re not confined to our borders either. Of the over 25,000 who voted for their Top 5 shows of 2015, dozens voiced their support from around the world.
Yes, the voting for a few shows took a suspicious jump over the last couple of days, but we’ll chalk that up to super-fans who simply love their programs … and know how to use technology to their advantage. (The voting wasn’t affected that much in the end.)
By the time the tally was taken, the Top 10 Canadian Shows of 2015 are:
Dark Matter (27%, 7,269 Votes)
Lost Girl (25%, 6,777 Votes)
Killjoys (21%, 5,766 Votes)
Heartland (20%, 5,384 Votes)
Murdoch Mysteries (10%, 2,632 Votes)
Orphan Black (8%, 2,147 Votes)
Tornado Hunters (8%, 2,080 Votes)
Rookie Blue (6%, 1,634 Votes)
When Calls the Heart (6%, 1,557 Votes)
Rick Mercer Report (5%, 1,486 Votes)
Aside from the Top 10 vote-getters, I was pleased to see several new programs perform well in the poll. Clearly, viewers love seeing three guys tooling around in a truck capturing wacky weather on film, as Tornado Hunters placed No. 7, not bad at all for a show that debuted late in the year and veteran The Liquidator finished just out of the Top 10.
Thanks again to everyone who voted. Check out the final results; you can still name your favourites in the Comments section at the bottom of the page.
