“Canada has some great artists breaking new ground, and I hope it continues. It takes bold artists, but it also takes good policy, and willing producers and networks. I hope that the trend continues, and that shows get the investments they need. We have the talent and skills, we just need that money yo’. But ya, this year I’ve witnessed the best Canadian television I’ve ever seen. Period.” Continue reading.

“When the conditions on set are right for that I really do feel like a bridge, or a portal or a filter, communicating my experience of the scene to the audience on an energetic level. Visually, this becomes the gaze behind the scene, and especially with handheld or improvised camerawork you infuse the project with your own instincts and your points of interest in a very real way.” Continue reading.

“I can’t give much away, but it’s a scene later in the season that Catherine (Reitman) directed, and did an incredible job guiding the scene into the emotional direction it should go. She managed to create a moment so surreal that I had forgotten I was on camera, and when they yelled, “cut!†I looked up, and the first thing I saw was Lainie Knox (our wonder woman camera A operator) wipe a tear from her eye.” Continue reading.
Dan Aykroyd is stopping by next week’s episode of Workin’ Moms. CBC made the announcement Wednesday, revealing the veteran actor guest-stars as Kate’s (Catherine Reitman) dad Wayne Hoffman.

Here’s the official logline for “Phoenix Rising”: In the episode, Phoenix Rising, Kate (Reitman) joins her team at Gaze on a Saturday to work on a pitch, promising Nathan (Philip Sternberg) she’ll be home in time for family dinner with their parents. When the camaraderie and joking get out of hand, it’s up to Kate to rein things in. With her family balance in jeopardy, she rushes to leave the office. On her way out, she learns there’s been a decision on the Montreal job, and can think of no better counsel on the matter than her own dad (Aykroyd). Anne (Dani Kind) struggles to find a point of connection with her daughter, Alice (Sadie Munroe), and Jenny (Jessalyn Wanlim) is faced with disconcerting truths about her life and relationship when Ian (Dennis Andres) asks for her help with his Kickstarter project.

“ I experienced my own PPD with the birth of my second child. So I could totally relate and empathize with what Frankie was going through. It’s a tricky beast PPD. It kind of snuck up on me. I had a tough third trimester, crazy fast birth, a baby that was the worst sleeper, and then I wanted to go back to work so desperately for fear of being “forgotten†as an actor and known only as a “mom†that I took on a show much, much too early.” Continue reading.
