A special presentation of statuettes was made to ACTRA Toronto’s stunt pioneers: John “Frenchie” Berger, Matt Birman, Shane Cardwell, Shelley Cook, Bobby Hannah, Chris Lamon, Dwayne McLean, Brent Meyer, Branko Racki, Alison Reid, Morris Maurizio Santia, John Stoneham Sr., Anton Tyukodi and Billy E. Williams.
The 14th Annual ACTRA Awards in Toronto were presented at a live show and gala at The Carlu. The show was hosted by comic Martha Chaves with live music by Salsa Norte.

ACTRA Toronto is the largest organization within ACTRA, representing more than 15,000 of Canada’s 22,000 professional performers working in recorded media in Canada. The quips continue fast and furious in this episode and it is laugh-out-loud funny.
Johnny is determined to run for town council, but he’s got his work cut out to convince Moira it’s a good idea. She thinks it’s beneath him. Right at the moment he tells her he has changed his mind and agrees it is beneath him, she announces she’s running. These two actors are like an old married couple. The timing and the chemistry between them is wonderful.
Before Johnny came to the decision not to run, he asks Bob and Roland for their support. Roland is heard having a personal phone conversation and as he hangs up he says, “I’m looking forward to catching up.” He tells Johnny he was just rescheduling his colonoscopy. Seriously, who thinks of these things? But it wouldn’t work with anyone other than Roland. The interaction with Bob is equally funny and unique to Bob. These are all unique, funny characters.
David really shines for me in this episode. I have always found him funny, but at times he had a tiny smirk like he was going to laugh – outside of the character of David – that I found distracting. There was none of that in this episode. His facial expressions are priceless. He doesn’t need to say much to be funny. He can say it all with a look.
Every character delivers his or her lines with precision. It is so refreshing to have this calibre of comedy on TV. It makes me proud to be Canadian. Our humour is unique … like this show and these characters.

CBC‘s hit comedies have been renewed for 2016-17, with brand new seasons of SCHITT’S CREEK, MR. D and THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES. Also returning for its 14th season is Canada’s RICK MERCER REPORT. The four original productions currently air back-to-back on Tuesday nights.
CBC recently led the way with 164 nominations for the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards, receiving 15 nods for SCHITT’S CREEK, the most nominated TV series of 2016, 12 for MR. D, six for THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES and four for RICK MERCER REPORT.
SCHITT’S CREEK – Season 3 premieres winter 2017 on CBC Television
SCHITT’S CREEK centres around a wealthy family that suddenly finds itself broke and forced to live in Schitt’s Creek, a small, depressing town they once bought as a joke. The half-hour single-camera comedy is co-created by Eugene and Daniel Levy, who also star in the show alongside celebrated actress Catherine O’Hara, rising star Annie Murphy and funnyman Chris Elliott.
MR. D – Season 6 premieres fall 2016 on CBC Television
MR. D follows an under-qualified teacher trying to fake his way through a teaching job, just as he fakes his way through life. The show stars stand-up comedian Gerry Dee as the inexperienced and overconfident Mr. Duncan (Mr. D) and an all-star ensemble cast including Jonathan Torrens, Bette MacDonald, Wes Williams, Lauren Hammersley, Naomi Snieckus, Mark Little, Suresh John, Darrin Rose, Bill Wood and Kathleen Phillips.
THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES – Season 24 premieres fall 2016 on CBC Television
An award-winning and record-breaking Canadian comedy institution, THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES features cast members Mark Critch, Cathy Jones, Shaun Majumder and Susan Kent as they savagely satirize Canadian politics and world events.
